Cadillac on pole for the 24, and locked out the front row! Not that being fastest in qualifying is all that important for a 24 hour race, but still stoked for the caddy boys.
A friend of mine worked on the Caddy LMP program in the early 2000s and they had a cool HUD fog driving setup…ahead of its’ time. I hope they do well.
We have a couple friends that have worked with JOTA (JOTA was their customer) and got us in the paddock last year. Got to spend some time in the paddock with the JOTA folks at COTA last year. Then entire team of folks was awesome all weekend. Several of the mechanics spent a ton of time talking to my son during down time. Super stoked to see them lock out the front row. Shows the Caddy has some pace, now to just avoid breakdowns and mistakes for 24hrs!
Kubica on that start finish line - “Where are my teammates… they should be here. I want them here.”
Looks like the Ferrari BOP is still lacking. The BOP is obviously not perfect, but they moved through the pack quite quickly once racing got going. Caddy needs to work on their aero to shed some drag.
Welp, no serious snafus from the JOTA folks, just overall lack of pace. Seemed they couldn’t push as hard as long as Penske or Ferrari. Wayne Taylor Racing and Whelen were way off the mark all week. Overall a good showing for JOTA.
Penske had pace, but mistakes cost them. Ferrari had pace for 1-2-3 finish, but factory Ferrari did Ferrari things and cost themselves that opportunity. Had it not been for a caution, they may not have managed the top step at all. Was happy to see Kubica close it out with the win though. Such a good driver that has overcome so much in his life/career.
Still looks like some work needs to be done with the whole BOP process being used, because Ferrari looked to be pretty dominant with a drive from the back as the day progressed on to night. In and of itself, no big deal. BUT, the prancing horses have been dominant all season long in a category that is supposed to use BOP to level the playing field. Something is clearly amiss with the process.
