From what I’ve read, it seems like it’s a high\low thing vs PWM.
How do like unipro so far. im trying to ditch mychron aswell
Most competitors to AIM have caught up on hardware. Their software is still the defining factor.
But, for most customers, RaceStudio is a bit too powerful and proprietary software from the others does enough. They could probably do with having an RS Lite for android/ios use.
Built in battery has been amazing. It lasts several days at the track and can just sit in the garage without draining itself. I had a handful of batteries to get thru a race weekend with the Mychron.
Haven’t had the usual not recording or losing GPS data like the Mychron so big plus. I went through 3 Mychron 5s in 2022-2023 and all of them had to go back to AIM to get fixed for random issues.
Software suite I’m 50/50. Missing something’s or I just haven’t found the right button to make it do everything I could with AIMs software.
But I’ll take better and more reliable hardware or not liking the software as much any day.
AIM quality went down a lot. Tons of issue for us as well this season with almost all devises bought and even batteries.
I must’ve gotten lucky because my 5T has been bulletproof for years. After about 7 years it needed some work done, but otherwise it works great.
I charge mine with the 8-pin cable so I pull it off every night anyway to charge, so the integrated battery makes no difference to me.
The integrated battery seems to be a sticking point to the old timers on facebook. I love my Alfano for that reason alone. I charge the battery about every 5th race and I never have to worry about it. I dont even take it off the kart, just push the stand over to where the cord reaches and let it charge over night one night during the week. Good to go for another couple of months. I assume the Mychron will be equally as capable.
I would have liked to see wireless sensor connectivity and TPMS.
We have an Old 5-T2 and have nothad many issues, but it is showing age.
The battery on it is s… so wehave a small external Lipo battery that solves it.
Have heard that alot have issues withthe 5S-T2, but great things about the Alfano.
One place where Mychron is ahead is ease of use, no setting up from track to track, easy to use menus. And the software is second to none.
We will be getting new units in 25, but not sure which one, we are several people who needs to agree so we have the same system.
One thing I’ll say is that a built in battery setup doesn’t not necessarily make it an unserviceable one.
Of course I’ll defer to folks that have held a MyChron 6 already.
Are they still using OffCamberData or something derived from that?
That I don’t know. It’s does 90% of what I need it to do at the track. RPM, Speed, Delta. Would like to deep dive a bit better at home. I’m use to Motec software which really lets you go nuts.
Yeah pretty much. Just a reskin of that
still waiting for race studio to be able to scroll with Left/Right arrow key, in lap comparison view, while zoomed in. Please !!
A small thing, but incredibly helpful when looking at the data while zoomed.
Motec i2 always had this capability
I can’t even remove the battery without removing the Mychron first anyways, more so on my daughters’ karts than mine. Depends on if one of the screws gets blocked by the wheel. So even if I do have to charge it inside, the built-in battery does remove one step. Now, I just hope they use a better battery. The 5’s batteries seem to start falling off pretty quick, and I wouldn’t want to send a 6 in for service every couple years because it won’t hold a charge all day anymore.
My son, who nerds out on this sort of thing (has an EV), tells me that batteries don’t like being fully discharged and also don’t like being charged to full. Best to keep it 80% and not drain it fully. Lasts longer.
Pretty much any lithium battery nowadays has built in management that does that for you. Even if it says “100% charged” it just means “100% of 80%” or whatever threshold is built in. Sometimes that can be a true 100%, sometimes not. Depends on the design goals, use case, etc.
I use one of these guys to charge my alfano, ive always got dewalt batteries at the track anyway, so i just leave the battery in the seat while im driving to the track.
For the MXP in my car, you can link the outputs to a variable and do a math channel on it. I simply have mine set to open/ close my accusump when I’m over 30mph AND the engine is at temp.
Since it’s a relay output, I doubt you can switch it fast enough to do any sort of PWM or anything, but you could make it fire a dummy light or a bug zapper attached to electrodes in the bottom of the seat.
