MyChron 6 Discussion - Comparison, reviews etc

With the M6 having a CAN interface, you can use a low-cost external TPMS like this:

This one is often used with automotive AiM systems, so the integration and RS3 stuff is all there and proven.

That’s actually pretty cool. +1 for the CAN bus.

CAN capability opens doors, but unless rulesets are updated to allow for additional sensors, they’re only for testing.

Yep, that why I like the idea of having a visually obvious external module… Easy to tech. Whereas if there’s built-in telemetry capability on the device… it’s more involved to check if it is\was in use.

I think event organizers will have to allow native features like the steering position capabilities of the MyChron 6, and maybe since it’s not a direct measurement, it slips through the regulations that way.

I have fully built out mychron systems, Infrared tire temp, Lambda, brake pressure, the works. The steering position sensor isn’t all that great, the resolution of signal using the included sprockets doesn’t align well with karting, and the mounting brackets for the tire temp system are a complete joke, the front brackets hold up about a week if you’re lucky.

Brake pressure and throttle position are the most valuable complements to the aim system.

Out of my own ignorance, what regulation prohibits the direct measurement of steering position?

We operate under WKA so I can retrieve that with ease, here is what their rulebook states.
There are some other restrictions, as in you cannot use an EGT on a Briggs Lo206. You can have pipes that have had a O2 bung welded in, but some engine-specific rules state no modification to the exhaust of any kind is permitted.

211.5 DATA ACQUISITION SYSTEMS:
On-board data acquisition systems and/or computer systems are
allowed to retrieve the following information only: on-board RPM, water
temperature, cylinder temperature, speed, exhaust temperature, lap
timing (lateral G sensing), and computer scoring systems. Sensors and
wiring for other inputs must be removed from the kart during practice
and racing. GPS based systems are allowed. Telemetry is not allowed;
data can only be downloaded when kart is off of the racing surface and
stationary. Only one beacon from each manufacture is allowed on
the race circuit on race days. It must be located in a designated area
by a designated person. All other beacons found on the race circuit on
race days will be confiscated and held by WKA to be returned through a
request to the Board of Trustees.

They just added a simplified mode that makes using RS3 Analysis easier for many people and have been putting some great videos on YT to help people out. The AiM channel, James Colburn, KartSpeed Solutions, and me (Matt Romanowski / Trailbrake) have a lot of videos to make using RS3 easier. Let me or AiM know if you want a video on something specific.

The arrow keys do allow you to move the cursor in a time distance plot. Shift+arrow gives you a small movement, arrow medium, and ctrl+arrow gives you a big movement. Does that help or did I miss your request?

What i mean is scroll the graph.
For ex. in lap comparsion mode.
You are zoomed in very deep to analyze in detail, then you want to move to the right alittle bit to see more data, there is no way to do it in Race Studio

In Motec software it’s called the Horizontal Pan

Horizontal Pan (Motec i3)
Horizontal pan is performed by dragging the horizontal axis or by dragging the horizontal scroll bar or using the Shift+Left or Shift+Right Arrow keys or the F and B keys (Forward & Back)

For the simulated view, can you please post links? I.e. start with this one then this, then this, etc…

No offense but the previous set of videos were not succinct. I find that they could have made the point in less than 25% of the time. Sorry to be this direct but the length of the current videos is not good for the product because they take too long to get through.

Thank you for considering this.

Hi Matt,

I watched a lot of those YT videos during covid. Great content!!
An exclusive new series on karting would be great and much appreciated, as one would have to watch many videos to get a good sense of all the possibilities and match channels out there.
I’m certainly interested in the CAN / TPMS possibilities with the MC6.

You can click and hold the X axis and scrub it left or right it in a time-distance and scroll it any any zoom level.

I’m working on getting some kart data that I can share and I can do a number of videos for people starting from downloaded data to analysis. If there is something you want before, let me know and I can do it with car data.

What connections will be allowed on the M6 CAN have not been announced. I do not know if the TPMS will be on there yet. My (TrailBrake) TPMS is probably not a great choice in a kart as it only provides .4-.5 psi resolution.

It doesn’t work in lap comparison mode :frowning:

Looking at this (AIM Highlights 2025):

It is shown a RS3 for mobile phones (iOS/Android)
Anyone knows anything about it?
It seems very interesting
I had an Alfano 6 and mobile app was incredible
I can´t find this app either in App Store nor Google Play (maybe it is soon, but it is said “it is available”

The app is not available right now. There is a paid app called LapSnap that is available. I do not know the current status of it though as the developer is in the Ukraine and we haven’t heard from him in a while.

I think I’m misunderstanding where you are looking or what you want. This is what I’m doing - time-distance plot, zoom with segment double click or mouse wheel, drag the x axis, click left and right to move cursor along, then with ctrl and shift.

Let me know what I’m doing different or where you want it to scroll.

I tried LapSnap, it´s fine but some problems transfering sessions
For me Alfano´s is much better thant LapSnap
For that reason I´m interested in AIM´s
Looking forward to seeing it working
