I’m new to karting and don’t have any spare sprockets. My kart has a 19/76 on it and I need to figure out what sprockets to get for a bunch of tracks. Any advice if I’m going to run NHKA @ Canaan, Club Motorsports, Shredway, Norwalk, Rocky Ridge, etc. I know it will be different for each, so I don’t mind buying a range of sprockets.
Personally I liked 2-piece for 50mm axles. Hated opening the twist up enough for the 50mm. For 30 and 40mm axles either one should be fine.
You have listed a couple of very small bull rings as well as a small car circuit in that list. Will make gear choices interesting indeed. Canaan has a 7/10 and 9/10 adult kart course and looks fast and flowy, Club motorsport is a bit tighter and about 4/10 mile length, Shredway looks like a tiny almost around 1/7 mile, NKA is only a 1/4 mile road course or 1/7 oval, and Rocky Ridge is another small 1/7 mile course. Probably means you will need a wide range of front drivers as well as rear sprockets at the big and little end of the spectrum to cover all your bases.
I usually tried to compare overall track length and longest straights to get an initial guess on 206 gears.
NTK - Track we started at was 1/2 mile with a 660 an 520 straight, we would be 3.47-3.68 there. So 19/67-19/70.
Waco - 2nd Smallest track we have run on is a 4/10 mile course with a 440ft “straight”, we would be 4.10-4.20 ratio there. So 17/69 to 17/72.
DKC - 7/10 mile with an 1140 straight section of flat out, but it has 3 turns so the longest true straight is about 380ft. So this track ends up landing at almost the exact same 3.47-3.68 ratio due to the tight 180s and the odd not-quite-straight “straight”.
SpeedSportz 3/4 mile with a 780 main straight and a 700 secondary almost straight “straight”. This track was around a 3.35-3.50 which would put you on a 19/66-19/65 or a 20/67-20/69.
My guesses would be…all guesses…just a place to start from.
Canaan 9/10 track - Looks fast and flowy - Carry a couple front drivers, 21 & 22. Have 65-72 rear. Gonna take some testing.
Canaan 7/10 track - Still flowy, but tighter, only 620ish straight - 20/65 to 20/68
Club Motorsport - 430 ft straight, 4/10 mile - similar to Waco, little tighter - 17/70 to 17/72
