A local track in my area has updated the 2025 rules to include a mandatory one-way radio. I’m not sure my opinion on this but curious if this is becoming commonplace and is this driven by insurance?
Actually, I was wondering how this wasn’t already mandatory. This being our first full season karting I witnessed two serious crashes where radios could have helped or prevented injury. Both involed a crash with karts (and ejected drivers) becoming stationary on track, then a second, or even third group driving into them at full speed multiple seconds later.
The receivers are ~$100 but much less than a kart and trip to the hospital.
Pretty common in dirt karting to require a raceiver.
Based on some things seen at a couple races, I could see the benefit in race control having 1-way comms ability.
The track is linking to Nitro Bee radio receiver, I assume these radios are similar in that they can all receive the specific signal transmitted.
That’s correct. I personally prefer the raceceiver compared to the nitrobee, but they both do the job just fine. The earbuds that come with the nitrobee suck though in my opinion. The raceceiver ones are better but I got my wife these, and she like them as they are custom fit, and they are much cheaper than professional custom molded earbuds.
Honestly, I’d love to hear all slow or something from radio than rely on flagging only.
In the dirt it’s super helpful because you have full cautions are occasionally they have to fix the lineup during those cautions. In sprint it definitely could be useful for earlier warning vs waiting for flags or lights.
I see they advertise these can be used for coaching but I assume having a spotter is not allowed. Could be a can of worms on that.
Be easy to tech whether you’re on the right frequency to hear the officials. Outside of competition it could definitely be used for live coaching.
