Evening kp. My kid just tied up his cadet kart and bent the steering column. Got the replacement and it only shows 2 holes. Did the race team before us add the middle holes?
Looks awfully like a Righetti steering shaft to me. The steering shafts are sorta Interchangeable. For a bit Birels steering shafts were on BO so I put in a IPK shaft in our c28.
My guess is someone do the same thing as you went to the cart shop, said I need this stat and got handed that one.
Its
a factory otk shaft. (Logo and label etched in). This was a national team kart (2 race, 1 podium) i wasnt sure if they did something secret squirrel or for a driver preference.
I’ve seen this modification done by some of the teams on full size karts. Can’t speak to the benefits other than it offers an in-between setting. I recall using the top most setting on our Tony Kart cadet. Seemed to work well at ogp, tight but fairly fast flowing track.
It’s hard to tell from the angle, but it looks like the middle holes are misaligned slightly, like you expect for hand-drilled holes. They also look like a smaller diameter. For your replacement column, do its holes match the diameter of the middles holes in the old column?
Thanks for rhe reply, top most as in closest to the tube, or top as furthest? Im going to try the closest to the tube to slow down the steering for my kid
Yes the holes are the same diameter(reflection looks rough) they are drilled inward slightly, the stock bushings fit perfect. Wanted to know before sending my kid out and getting blamed by him ![]()
Fwiw I run in “that” middle position on my younger kids when we run the high grip red Vegas. Seems to help them not get as tired but still has decent steering response.
Depending on age most the time you can make an adjustment and kids can’t tell. Or go opposite and say you changed something and don’t and there like yeah dad wayyy better!
Yes, closest to tube. It will slow down the steering and reduce the force required to turn the wheel. Further away from the tube will result in heavier and quicker steering.
Lol yes its true. Our 2 home tracks are tight and technical, but I noticed I had to reduce some front end setting to take the twitch out for him. I might leave it as a 2 hole for now and try the setting closest to the tube to keep his arms from overworking
