On the road to Lincoln, RI tonight for the annual TKC race up in Quahog country.
Nick and I raced here last year and really enjoyed the facility. Race was pretty brutal but I am hopeful that this time we shall be civilized.
United Mileage Plus Lounge R1
It’s a 4+ hr drive but the facility is open till midnight. In theory I could get some practice in tonight if I leave early enough.
Detail to follow.
And, we are off!
I’m now about halfway, at a CT rest stop, filling up. Plan is to get there about 9, do practice sessions, go hotel, call spouse. sleep, wake, race.
I really like the 911 on the highway. It is a really nice drive.
More later!
7 Practice Heats
I was able to get in a bunch of much needed practice. The folks there were really cool and threw me right out in the pro speed. I proceeded to then do very poorly as I was flying blind. But, with practice I got much more competent.
One of the guys working there was telling me to go flat through certain things and I was having trouble seeing it. As the night progressed, I got the hang of it. Unfortunately, these are Bizkarts and have the annoying brake power kill feature.
Some of the sessions were at normal speed. At normal speed, you are basically flat through most everything, even on the crap tires. I’m guessing that at pro speed, on the good tires, you can power through a lot as well.
I learned a few neat things. One, the employees say use boost at top of hill. Two, there’s two types of tire on track. The kart #10 I was in was one of the good tire karts and the tire was way, way more grippy then the regular tire. I think half the fleet or a third of the fleet is in the grippy tires, something like that. I am not sure what the plan is for that for the race, actually, or if Alec is even aware.
In any case, I’m glad I came to practice. I would have been very unprepared for tomorrow.
The Raceday
The race itself went well. While I was not the fastest of the lot, I managed to make the most of my P11 main start and finished P7. I had to fend off relentless predation while also tracking down a few wounded gazelle. I am content.
Format was 5min practice, 3min quali.
Prefinal
Main
Top 6 of A and B do a final race.
It all went well this time and we did not have any snafus that typically interrupt our race days. A great success! Well done TKC and R1!
