Much brighter. Now i can start hanging accessories and getting it organized.

Painting the walls (and ceiling) white makes an amazing difference in brightness in the trailer! We went with grip paint on the floor and ramp because I slipped and landed flat on my back once when the plywood was wet. Won’t happen again!

I have rubber diamond pattern on the floor, but i am definitely considering doing the grip paint on the ramp!

Your placement of items is very logical.

I encourage you to work through how you will load and unload your kart. So, where will the kart stand go? It will be the first thing out and last thing in.

If you have a work table where will that go? What about a canopy? Which order at the track vs at home?

I’m thinking about the same basic layout that you have. I’m going to try to put the kart stand and table between the rear door and the kart.

The space at the front between the door and the tool chest is premium. Would a small surface there be useful when using the tool chest?

I’m also thinking that the less frequently used items should be most inconvenient to get to. The only exception is rain tires.

Oh, how are you going to hold down the kart? If you use straps, any concerns about getting flat spots?

I’m trying to come up with a cradle of some sort that the frame can sit on. Nothing worked out as yet, though.

As for loading and unloading, i have some thoughts. I think i may add another 2 pieces of E track to the floor in front of the ones currently there. Then i can choose to place the kart further forward or closer to the ramp. I use an electric kart lift that is fully foldable, so if i move the kart further into the trailer, i would have room to lower it with the lift, then fold the lift up and strap it to the e track along the wall.

I do have a folding work table, as well as chairs and canopy, i think i will strap them to the e track along the side wall as well.

Im still wrestling with ideas for the front of the trailer. I also have a locker that id like to put in the short section between the man door and the start of the vee nose, so my son can keep his race gear organized in the locker. The rectangular box on the floor at the front in the digital mockup, holds 2 square fuel jugs. Id like them close to the man door, so when i stop for fuel, i can open the door and just reach in.

My son suggested building a drop down work bench that folds up against the wall when not being used

Yes i do strap the kart down, i use our practice tires to transport the kart, so the good race tires dont get flat spotted.

I’m a noob around trailers. My trailer manual says 70% of the weight needs to be in front of the trailer axle and 30% behind. Please check this for your trailer.

At the front, in the V, I want to put a shelf with a lip and put the race suit, helmet, neck, chest protectors and gloves there.

I like your idea of putting the fuel can in the front. I’ll do that, too!

My trailer is considerably smaller than yours - 5’x8’. So I have the additional joy of removing the side pods, rear bumper and replacing the rear wheels with a set of fronts to get the kart in to the trailer. I do find pushing the kart in to be awkward and a pain. C’est la vie. What I’d love to do is to have something that can restrain the kart that doesn’t involve straps. Haven’t worked this out as yet.

I’m planning on putting tire racks on the left wall at shoulder height.

On the right wall, I was thinking of a folding table which would be folded up when loading the kart. Then, it would be put down and I can put things on it and strap them down. However, this means that I won’t be able to unload the kart without moving all those things and folding up the table. I didn’t know if the table will need cables to the side or it needs legs. Whatever is done needs to handle the loads.

IIRC, you want ~10-15% of the gross weight of the trailer on the tongue. So, if your trailer weighs 2500 lbs ready to head to the track, you should have a tongue weight of ~250 lbs. When the kids first started in quarter midgets my wife and I went through all kinds of loading placements to get the tongue weight where it needed to be. My son and I went through the same process when we switched to karts. You definitely don’t want the weight too far back or forward, or the tail will wag the dog (ask me how I know… :man_facepalming: )!

i don’t know if anyone else does this, but the team i was on leaves the kart on the stand in the trailer. been doing it for 5 years and no issues. center of gravity is a little higher, but as long as you don’t drive like a maniac, should be fine.

I used to do that with my old scissor stand, the electric lift stand i have now, has no real support under the front of the kart. I wouldn’t feel comfortable with the weight of the kart bouncing down the road.

I’ve hauled lift stands a fair bit, some have a locking mechanism for the rear support and some don’t but either way I’d usually strap the rear support bar backwards and then tie the front at the the bottom of the stand forward. You can also put a strap across the front downward with light tension to reduce bouncing. Totally understand not doing so however and if you have plenty of room then there’s no reason.

No issue in transporting it on the stand, as long as you tie down the 4 corners.

With the exception of Dalmi and other electric stands

Iirc Jerry used to triple stack them and use tie downs.

I use a Dalmi, which is why i no longer transport on the stand.

I was wondering…if we simply fabricate a metal strap to lock in the uprights to the main frame, that would turn the dalmi into a fixed stand, so it can be used for transport too. 2 bolts and a metal slat with a slot on one end, to slide in and lock the whole mechanism

That thought has crossed my mind as well. Or even fabricate something that utilizes the e track on the floor, sort of click into the e track, and extend up and under the front of the kart for support while on the road. Things to ponder.

I work for a trailer manufacturer, so pretty experienced with loads on them. Realistically on trailers this small, and with loads as light as most kart trailers would carry, just bias towards the front a bit and I’ll be plenty stable.

I’m also thinking of building a fold down work bench for the right side wall. Gotta sort out how i want to do that.



Got the cabinet hung, changed my mind where I’m going to keep the rolling tool cart, going to strap it to the wall under that cabinet, and keep the front vee for canopy, chairs, folding table etc.

Undecided on the locker situation, might separate the 2 units and just use one tight to the wall forward of the man door, then move the gas cans rear of the man door.
