I used it alot and yea you can turn off GPS. That would have been better imho. That being said, I am OK without telemetry because that way I can put up Gen 1 footage that hasnt been re-compressed by editor. Hopefully Youtube serves these up in HD well.
Also, old people have no knees and cant compete with the young ones. Andre at 21 vs Dude next to him in 30s or 40s… no contest. Rebel Scum will not be seeing its captain doing any starts methinks.
Outta curiousity, what info from these do you like and what’s less interesting?
I’m pretty sure footage is sort of unnecessary other than a few examples of the track, some good battles, any interesting incidents, that sort of stuff.
What’s most appreciated ? Still snapshots and words?
I don’t go into much detail on the race and the driving mostly to not bore folks.
I don’t really have an “outline” for these race reports and would like to make them more enjoyable for a broader audience than those who did the race.
Also…
It occurs to me that you asked me a perfectly reasonable question and I answered you by saying “yes” but here’s an example of “no”. To summarize… I believe so. I did not have the courage (and we were behind) to Yeet t12 nose but I’m pretty sure it’s a go.
Chris runs a straight pipe basically. So we’re more like 11hp than 9.
Since you don’t rental, here’s my thoughts…
Rentals are slower and the SOS isn’t a thing. But, they are HEAVY. So braking is the challenge. It’s kind of hard on rentals because there’s just so much mass (and hard compounds). So, the challenge in rentals is that weight which pretty much extends/increases braking needs. Trying to stay within the optimal grip of hard tires on a heavy kart is a challenge that’s sorta uniquely rental.
This simple statement is why YouTube is trying to convince us all to watch shorts. I fully engaged your attention, for about 5 seconds.
So long as they keep letting me put up long form race footage, im happy tho.
And, who doesn’t like crash footage (assuming no one gets hurt)?
I’m glad I kept my foot in so I appear to be a brave person. In reality, it never came close, thus the “flat” run out. I mean it was close in that it was physically close but I knew that it wasn’t gonna intersect well before it looked dicey to the observer.
Unfortunately we also got stuck with it as the race was well attended and they didn’t have extra karts so that we could change at refuel.
But, we did ok considering, finishing 6th, rallying back from a mid pack meander.
It was a race that asked you to be mature and take your lumps, to drive what you’ve got.
It was rewarding and boy, what a lovely couple days. It’s also cool to hang with the guys as they are getting older and stuff. Racing is funny, it’s about winning but also not.
Nyad tells the story of Diana Nyad, a marathon swimmer who broke records and achieved a number of firsts in the sport. At the age of 60, she decided to complete the feat she wasn’t able to when she was 28—swim the more than 100 miles from Cuba to Florida without the aid of a shark cage, powered only by her stubborn will and swimming prowess.
She sounds like she’d be a fine racer. She’s completely unreasonable about losing.
I’m a bit conflicted, but if the shorts drive viewers to the long form racing, then it’s a success. Some of them might actually be into karting or get inspired.
Speaking of which… (long form)… here’s another Drive with Dom, this time with a stronger driver to play with:
P1
P2
Just had a racing idea: Put an enforcer on the track. A big Dude in a beefy rental kart with a 125 tag engine or one of those money race methanol fuleled dirt jobbies making 40hp. If the race director decides you need some education, the enforcer comes and bullies you for a lap.
Oddly, even without track limits, you’d never find yourself there. Its the shadow of the apex which is basically a square turn, 90deg. You’d have to park it sideways, come to full stop.
Some normal racing footage where I race a guy whose suit changes color in the shade
Some good racing… another kart goes from a nice standing start to a good long-form pack chase. This is the entire heat of B. Armhurst. Elias passes somewhere around 15mins:
