Per Swedetech recommendations I put 275cc / 9.5oz gear oil in my ROK Shifter. However, I’ve constantly battling overflow issues after usage to point where I’m wondering if that is too much. I get a decent amount in the the small overflow bottle (And on the chassis by the overflow bottle). Do these transmissions somehow build up a lot of pressure? Is 275cc too much oil? Do I need a MUCH bigger catch bottle?
OK hear me out but is the engine running OK? Leaking crank seals can cause issues like this. But it would usually manifest itself as smoke from burning trans fluid/oil and a nasty smell.
I don’t think it’s an overflow issue so much as the oil becomes a mist inside the gearbox and that mist makes it way out the vent tube. Mine does it, but I just clean it up and keep an eye on the level.
If there is a blockage in the vent tube it may pressurize the gearbox and cause leaking. We’ve had this happen when running a filter on the end of the vent line. You can instead run a plain piece of fuel line and route it down to the frame rails by the bearing cassette.
In this case I have fuel line going into a catch bottle. It’s clearly flowing as the catch bottle will fill. I don’t believe it is filling up all the way, and instead that there’s enough “pressure” that it will also leak out of the vents on the catch bottle cap. Either way, it just seems excessive, but if it’s a “that’s just how it is” kind of thing I’ll adjust accordingly.
