Thread for discussing and posting practice/race info, links, video, etc. Maybe it’s just me, or maybe it’s just not that covered, but every year I have a hard time following these events along at home and feel like the (mostly facebook/instragram) links are out there, but that I just don’t know where to look.
Some of the more obvious links are below. Links for smaller teams and privateers extremely welcome.
Personally I hate the alpha timing that Rok is using these days. Not user friendly at all, and it’s difficult to look at results after the session is complete.
No criticism on you, just the alpha timing software isn’t the greatest. The higher horsepower classes are really down on numbers this year, unfortunate.
The KA/VLR is sucking all the oxygen out of the room for the other classes, and not including shifter, probably rightly so. Very healthy sized fields there. I was actually surprised to see that they are even running the ROK GP classes considering they don’t even run at many ROK events throughout the year.
Do anyone know if the ROK events still let KA run with the VLR like they did in the beginning or did they do away with that?
Even shifter numbers are down compared to a couple years ago. They haven’t allowed KA with VLR for awhile, and yeah the GP is all but dead. Expect them to bring that new engine in soon to replace the GP in the ranks.
Does anyone have access to this NBC Sports video live stream Watch ROK Vegas 2024 Live Stream - when I tried to watch it is said that I had to register for a ‘free account’, which I was ok with, but then it started asking for a credit card so I passed. Is this even real coverage???
Nothing specific enough to actually gripe about or to push people away from it. I am just grumpy and old. We have had 4 apps in 5 years, so any stability I will take at this point.
Some quick notes:
The app doesnt work for registration, so you have to use a web browser link (usually shared from Facebook or our track’s website).
The scoring app doesn’t show who is live like other apps. It is not searchable by your club so you always have to scroll to the bottom of the list (our club starts with a “W”)
Past results are impossible to find on the app (literally not there).
Overall, I would say it is middle of the road. Not the best I have ever used, but definitely not the worst. I am just tired of having to use 5 different apps for karting results in my area.
Just checked out qualifying for Shifter pro & mas, couldn’t believe how much the fields have shrunk! In '21 didn’t they have nearly 60 drivers shifter pro? Seems like since then the fields have been shrinking as everyone is going KZ, which in my opinion is the way it should be. Last year the Rok shifter fields decreased considerably while the KZ fields increased.
agreed, was trying to check the quali results and couldn’t find anything, till I checked this thread. Why did they abandon their own “Rok Cup USA” timing and scoring app? Plus I couldn’t find any info on their Instagram on how to check results. This should be a pinned post on their instagram!!
I reached out to Alpha to see if they had a response, as your comment was one of the first negative feedback I had heard. Their response below:
Hey John,
To be transparent, our app is currently in its BETA stage, and we’re in the process of completely rebuilding it. You can expect to see rapid improvements over the next 3-6 months.
The app does support registration, though its functionality can vary based on the venue’s settings. Some issues may also arise from the user experience, as the workflow isn’t ideal yet. The core challenge lies in the current code structure—timing, registration, and results functions are built on different code bases. We’re consolidating these into a single, unified language to streamline everything and resolve these issues.
In addition to addressing foundational issues, we’re adding a range of new features to make the app much more robust, moving beyond basic improvements.
The app has been our biggest weak point but is now at the top of our development priority list. By the time your club would go live, it will already be significantly improved and will continue to progress throughout 2025.
Good to hear, John. I have not worked with them directly but our race director told me similar things. Sounds like they are at least making improvements which is better than other apps.
No dog in the race as regarding grid counts for the ROK shifter, but I’m kind of rubbing my hands at the hopes of maybe getting a deal on one if they start to proliferate in the classifieds.
