Rotax Battery Charging

Hello, im awfully new to karting, when I go to charge my battery all I hear is electric shocks, one time it even started smoking, it still operates and functions normally, but I have no idea what I need to disconnect first before charging it or what it looks like at all, would somone be able to send a photo or describe what I need to disconnect beforehand? Thank you.

Pop the plastic cover off and make sure the terminals are snug and nothing is frayed. There should never be any smoke/sparking. Also you should not need to disconnect a thing before plugging in the charger. Check the Rotax install manual it walk through making the connections.

checked under the cover no frays and good connections, theres only what I can see to be insulation fraying near the charging bush

Do you have anyone local that knows Rotax to take a look. I’d be very hesitant to plug it in again or to even leave the battery connected while in storage. Not to sound dramatic, but the last thing you want is a battery fire.

Maybe post some pictures and someone here can point to an issue you just aren’t seeing.

What are using for a charger? If it is not the original Rotax charger it may be charging at too high of a current. Where is the smoke and noise coming from?

Using a Rotax charger and it’s coming from the charging bush

I’m not familiar with the term charger bush. Can you provide more detail?

Make sure nothing has gotten into the charging port. Blow it out with compressed air.
