Shifter kart racers

Shifter racers what what kz2 motors have you raced for sprint racing and how do they compare against the tms since everybody has them , any info on Modena iame the new black rock lke stuff and motori l11 I bought a tm r2 as a race engine and might grab a Modena kk2 for a practice motor or a r1

I’m a Rok Shifter guy myself…

I came from a rok shifter good engine I love it

I used to develop, build, and race mod hondas (CR125’s) back in the day with my dad in SKUSA’s regional and national series . Now I have a TM R2 total black. I’ve driven a R1 and a ROK shifter. I’ve talked to a number of trusted builders about the various engines that are available. My takeaway is that all modern KZ engines are capable of making the same power more or less. For me the choice comes down to reliability, what I can get parts/support for. I have heard directly from a driver who has a TM R1 and the most recent Modena that the Modena has less bottom, and more top end than the TM. Laptime is basically the same, but the Modena is temperamental on jetting and “eats reeds”.

There are variances in the optimal power curve, carburetion characteristics, and gearbox ratios as you go from one track to the next, so the “best” engine from a performance perspective may be different depending on where you race.

That said I really like the R2. When you get it tuned correctly it has a crazy wide powerband and pulls like a freight train.

My take is to pick the engine based on support available for it at the tracks/events you run. It’s the tuning on the day that makes the biggest difference IMO.

Im a honda cr 125 enthusiast

Got that engine race and prepped on a dozen bikes till now . But still to place it on a kart chassis is my future dream to come .
