You know how I have been yammering on about shorts and how they get a lot of views?
I decided to make a couple test shorts to see if they promoted everything I threw at it. Thus far, shorts seem to generate 5-20X clicks as compared to normal uploads.
So, my honest shorts that aren’t deliberately stupid seem to have gotten picked up. I have one short that as of this am is over 5k views.
Normal vid being promoted: 5.1k views in a few days
However, the short entitled “dry scalp” which is just footage of a bus driver scratching his head in traffic to Taylor Swift, has only generated 17 views.
Shitpost Short to see if it gets promoted
The semi-serious “kart racing but with cat purring sounds” fared better, reaching 400 views after a few days. Unlike the more “serious” ones, it did not suddenly experience a ton of views when posted, rather, they trickled in. The normal accumulation of hits over time suggests that this one was not promoted, but rather “suceeded” because it’s kinda interesting as opposed to deliberately stupid.
Will the algo reward dumb? Not especially.
So, conclusion, not all shorts are promoted but it seems that in general, yes, they are.
It’s not a race facility but it’s karting in a pretty place. It’s associated with a resort and it’s guests can buy access to the track for an hourly rate if $155 which is expensive, sort of, but I’m guessing that that’s to pay whoever has to show up, open the track, and keep an eye on things. I can’t imagine this place runs profitably.
That track looks really big, actually. Looking at the pic of the karter on the track, those turns have huge radii. Some hrspwr would be good there. With 7 switchbacks in a row, would be painful in tag.
Apparently this but of engineering fun is related to their soap box derby efforts. Back in 2004 and 2005 they competed in:
“The Extreme Gravity Race, founded by Don MacAllister, is a charitable event that raises money for foster children to help them become independent young men and women in their communities…”
Yeah I find the same thing. Although not quite as drastic as yours. I tend to get between 200 - 500 views on longer length vids. Shorts is usually between 500 - 1.5k. Although my traffic is increasing each time I post in general
@Bimodal_Rocket Clearly you have never seen me on skates.
I was skating with my son when he was first learning to skate (and I apparently was not) when I suffered a lift-off oversteer moment in the middle of a crossover turn and BAM…epic face plant… that one hurt!
Ain’t gonna be much simming done with Diablo 4 out. We will return to our regularly scheduled programming when Nick and I have defeated Lilith.
Review so far: really really good. It’s instantly familiar yet new in significant ways. The combat is amazing and the skill trees are deep. Well worth a visit.
So the videos I made at the new Supercharged facility in Edison, NJ, have gotten alot of views relatively speaking. I would say about 10x normal.
This suggests to me that Supercharged’s marketing has worked well and there is a ton of interest in that rental facility. I am guessing the vids have high hit count because of folks researching the place for a visit.
Things seem to be going well for them, from a demand perspective. I wonder how many facilities NJ could handle.
