Sim Racing Megatopic

Well done sir. Take a well earned podium nap! :checkered_flag::checkered_flag::checkered_flag:

Kind of lost my focus with Kk and multiplayer. It’s fun to go into the practice sessions and see how you fare, in comparison to others lap times. There isn’t a leaderboard yet and there’s no actual racing. So, for now, it’s sort of pointless.

I am having fun, despite not having an objective. I should be working on AMP, but this works for now. We do need racing, though. Some sort of race series.

I wonder how it will work. I imagine that the iracing model would be good to work off of. It must be complicated to set up online racing.

Interesting interview with Max about sim racing:

“GT Cars” for god’s sake DC pay attention :joy:

Sim is super important now and probably how most future racers will get their start. Imo.

right there is Max ending karting’s reign as the grassroots of motorsport.

Or maybe not. He also karted. Let’s do a video of him discussing how karting and sim opened up the doors for him. I bet they are equally important.

It’s why I said ‘grassroots’, not ‘stepping stone’. In terms of accessibility and relevance to the ‘normal’ person sim racing is the ‘grassroots’ of racing.

Karting at high level is not longer the grassroots of racing, not when considering the budget needed. Simracing is going to be a great way to get noticed at an early age, that is for sure

I think there will always be people who want to try the ‘real thing.’ If karting is truly a grassroots thing, and not F5, then it seems like karting and sim can coexist.

Imagine a future where racers don’t go to Reddit asking: "I’m 15 is it too late to get in to Karting and F1?l

I’d be cool with karting being it’s own thing…

A nice future. And people not asking if a wreck is their fault, that would be great too

Part of that is the insecurity folks have with early stage racing. Folks don’t want to be “that guy”. But, the fact that people worry about that makes me think that there’s an undercurrent of poor sportsmanship and misplaced ambitions that has seeped into karting from televised racing.

Some of the pros in motorsport are real pricks on track (and off) and some folks think that’s he way it’s “supposed” to be. Ie: the constant Senna quote about going for gaps etc.

Remember that wretched TV show about competitive karting that was such a cringe-fest? That’s part of the problem right there, that perception.

Absolutely, I was that guy now I’m ready to argue the corner was mine it’s 50/50 at best :joy:

Unless I clearly did a manic dive that was never gonna work :joy::joy:

A nice sim intro:

So far I know about Romain having a team, Max has a team, too.

Any other top tier racers putting their name behind a sim
team? It would be pretty neat for the guys in F1 for smack-talking purposes. “Yeah, your OP F1 car won at Bahrain, but my team smoked yours in the Bahrain Sim Invitational”.

Max flexed pretty hard on Redspeed’s results in that vid, for example. :sunglasses:

I think Lando has a team too, and also a karting team with YTuber “Super GT”.

Ooh. Did not know that. That must be awesome fun for them both (karting).

wait a sec, they on same team?

This gets more confusing as he (Lando) also has a team called Quadrant:

Quadrant appears to be across games… they have team members for non-sim competitive games like Call of Duty

Quadrant is the new team, it is a Esports(Content creation) team. Not just racing.

What do you think they mean by “content creation”?

Founded by McLaren F1 Driver Lando Norris and brought to life by Veloce, Quadrant is a gaming and lifestyle brand that combines Lando’s love for Gaming, Racing, Content, and Apparel. Through Quadrant, Lando wants to provide a greater platform for content supported by Quadrant’s creators and four brand quadrants.

Quadrant is positioned to become one of the world’s most visible gaming & content organisations with the aim of entertaining and building a community of gamers who live for the lifestyle. See the team below.

I didn’t see any devs in that team!

@MinionSpeed Welcome, by the way. It says this is your first visit (but we’ve seen you here before I think).
