Yea on whackadoo stuff. I think there’s much to be learned. I am trying things that make little sense.
The scrub seemed to make the kart feel like it’s more up on its toes and on casters. Easy to turn and skate. Shouldn’t but seems to change things. Maybe it’s just my imagination.
It was the case mainly when the tyre model was bad (and still using an approximation) and you could spin for going 1% over the limit, I have heard complains too on that. The worst was with the IR18 that was using a very outdated model
By the way, I had also considered that maybe I’m not as great as I think I am, but then I quickly slapped myself back to reality and got that nonsense out of my head.
Well, you should be able to go at it 100%. The fact that you are dialing it back to keep kart compliant suggests something is up.
I’m going as fast as I can, driving hard, sometimes. I mess around, too, doing stuff you wouldn’t do irl because you’d crash.
It’s pretty hard to actually lose control, very, very rare. We seem to experience the game differently. I wonder if it’s because you have expectations based upon a long karting career. Me, not so much.
It’s so strange though because I don’t drive differently in game as compared to irl, at least not consciously. It’s just that the game has more latitude.
I also had considered this. I crash pretty often in KK, or at least half-spin or drop a wheel. I wonder if the game’s realism falls right into the uncanny valley for me; so realistic that it feels close enough that I drive like I would in real-life and I can’t bring myself to deviate from that, but not quite realistic enough for that to work.
All I do is race leaderboard ghosts really, so yeah same thing happens. I’ve probably raced your ghost before but can’t remember specifically.
Most of the fast guys’ ghosts look like what we’ve talked about; like they rotate with the brakes and the kart is stuck from the apex off, which I can manage most of the time. It’s just an awkward driving style that is inconsistent for me to pull off.
This is from last year so an earlier build, but turns 1, 3, and the final corner are good examples of what I aim for when I’m braking and turning. It’s the only way I can get around the corner without it over-rotating mid-corner: KartKraft - Geelong - KA100 US #1 - YouTube
That doesn’t resonate with me at all. I would like to be able to see this from external view.
Going back to throttle in that scenario would be spin mid-corner. If, as you describe, wheel stays up and sidewall of remaining wheel collapses or grip doesn’t hold.
Here is the Kartkross track in a kart. It’s an odd track on that it looks nothing like a kart track. Yet, it feels correctly sized and is really entertaining to drive. I think the fact that the entire track is fenced/walled in, with little to no bailouts, is what makes it feel un-kart like.
A little note on multiplayer. I am seeing a ton of new names on track. Much more populated and the driving standards have gone up.
I am doing well, all things considered. I typically place up front or in top 3. I think the massive amounts of laps I have run makes me very, very good at AMSP, PFI, GVKC, GEEL. I have been quick from day 1 of MP on the classics.
I’ve struggled a bit more with the new tracks. I also do well there but since I don’t have the mastery from chasing the LB, it’s more of a work in progress. Still typically amongst the fastest, though. But, I am faster and faster as I work out line and gearing.
The ka100 seems to respond well to lots of teeth. I am having fun running 9-68 or 9-69 at Whilton Mill and Genk. This seems to be headed in right direction. In general, gearing for KA is weird in that the engine noise doesn’t give very useful feedback. I don’t hear a limiter, for example. PFI and AMSP seem to do well on 9-66, or thereabouts.
In general, the KA100 seems easier to drive on the limit than the x30, but is not as rewarding in some ways. The x30 feels more spirited and less easy to park on an apex.
