Sim Racing Megatopic

I used a 2.5 on the challenge and it was fine.

Ultimately, the only FFB wheels I’ve ever used are old pre-G series Logitech stuff. It’s going to be such a big jump I doubt I’ll know that it’s moving around a bunch until I get a permanent rig.

A lap of Genk in KA100 in KartKraft

I haven’t had the opportunity to show Genk, yet. So, I just ran a lap. I was the only one in this multiplayer session so I kicked back and let some laps rip. Here’s the best one from that session. 10-76 gearing. I make a mess of a couple turns but find a way through without paying too high a price.

Just wanna announce that while I’m not used to the brake at all, I instantly dropped a second at Long Beach in the mx5 and was even more consistent than before. What a difference coming from 13 year old Logitech pedals.

That’s awesome!

The software interface is pretty easy to figure out. If you haven’t played with it, take a look. By the way, it seems to me that the loadcell is foot position sensitive. I may be nuts but I get that sense, not in a bad way, tho. Its more like if you are off center the sensitivity declines.

Once you dial it in and get used to it, the loadcell is really nice. You can modulate brakes just like the real thing. Congrats!

Edit: I just read an interesting brake calibration method… in the fanatec software it has sliders every 10%. Basically find the one that allows you to fill the bar fully while pressing hard. I don’t run this way, however. I run deliberately sharp brakes. I am at 60% brake in fanatec software and 85 in tuning menu in game.

Hey, Simhub users. Here’s a good video on how to set up effects:

I’ve actually found that so far I prefer the pedal at the softest preload and 50% on the slider. The Throttle is just as much of an improvement. I don’t think I was really able to modulate part throttle situations before.

Yeah 50 is nice. Its a really nice change from potentiometer pedals, as I recall. The feel of my fanatecs is nice and not toy-like. The new ones look like they are lighter construction. But, they are undoubtedly better, Fanatec makes good stuff and each new iteration is better and better, imo. Its not cheap, tho.

How do they feel?

Found it: it’s called the Playseat Trophy

This seems terrific. It looks like a small footprint full rig that’s more rigid than the challenge.

Price is an issue, tho. It’s $699 which seems pricey compared to $299 for challenge. However, neither require a seperate seat purchase.

The trophy appears to have a much better foot position than the challenge. The trophy also appears very capable of handling a small DD like the CSL.

I’m getting more and more used to them, and my iRating is climbing accordingly. I don’t feel a need for the performance kit, as I don’t really like a super stiff pedal, but I would like to try out the damper.

This is the setup I have:

How do you like the fgt?

Hmmm:

And this is interesting:

It’s doing the job, my wife didn’t want a permanent structure in the house but I think I’ll be able to change that now that she sees how it’s going. It does shake quite a bit, so if you’re looking for a cheap motion rig that’s the one lol.

That’s what I liked about the challenge. It was quite “dynamic”.

Oooh, successfully put last second bid and won a reverb g2 for $355. 21st century VR here we come.

A lap of Whilton Mill in x30

My pal Ethan Oring challenged me to come try to catch his time. He’s got a nice time US 2 GLB 2 that I think might be able to catch. Half a sec to go, approx.

Anyways, this is a wooly lap with plenty of mistakes but there’s also moments when I execute very well. A flawed but real lap.

Here’s a rig set up guide. I’m getting some sort of tennis elbow from sim and I think my setup might be lacking. Thought I’d share the article.

Hot dog! Hopped on iRacing this evening for a quick race in the MX-5 (still aboard the PS4 Controller “rig”). Had done a few sessions at Oulton Park before, but not in this car, so I wouldn’t consider myself “on the pace”.

Had a decent run in qualifying, but had three cars sneak ahead of me by less a tenth, so ended with a P8 starting spot. Turn 1 at Oulton Park isn’t especially noteworthy, but ohhhh man did things get spicy…check out the replay below. Unfortunately, the glory was short lived, as the field tracked me down five laps later, but still managed an admirable P3 finish. Crazy Race.

Here’s the clip from the start:

Wow. Talk about a start. Did you get damage of any sort? Nice job.

Didn’t seem like any significant damage. Right place at the right time for sure!
