Sim Racing Megatopic

Yeah it’s not a 410, not even a 360, but still!

It’s not like he toodled around hotlapping on an empty track. He went to the A-main and placed well all the way through, especially considering the smaller engine relative to the field (if I understood correctly).

:sunglasses::thinking::stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: does my 600 starts in 6 months in USF give me that kinda cred?

Honestly you’re at an advantage compared to kids coming from karting who have never driven the USF2000.

I will unpack that statement later… it may have subtext. :sunglasses:

I think one of the fellas that karted f-series is now racing USF2000 In real life. (Dylan Christie). I came across him once or twice in iracing as well. (He was quite skilled).

I wonder how the transition went for him and wether he did USF sim before doing USF real.

First race did not go well. Ultimately a DNF as I got punted in traffic by a pretty stupid pass attempt. Oh well.

I also had a fair amount of logistical screw ups since I am new to this format. At one point I got the meatball and was told to go to pits. So I went and got a penalty for entering a closed pit. Sigh.

Oh that and there’s no pit limiter in this car so that’s another penalty.

Next race will be better!

a 360 and 410 drive pretty similar in real life. Like KA100 vs x30. Obviously a 410 has more power and throttle control is extremely critical on a slick track. Both have insane amount of downforce with a wing on. The true difference lies in the wingless 360 and 410. iRacing needs to improve the wingless car as it drives absolutely nowhere what a real one does.

A 305 to a 410 is like going from a 206 to a KZ.

So I’m driving the 410 wingless on oval pavement. It feels amazing. Grip for days and days.

I have not tried the 360 but will do so. I did pick up a modified that is oval specific and looked mean and nasty but was kind of a dull car, comparatively.

The silver crown car is also very interesting. It has the oddest seating position for a race car. You sit like at a table. It’s very upright. It is also quite powerful but feels extremely precise as compared to the savagery of the 410.

So I’ve joined the iRacing gang for real and bought myself a computer. Trying things out tonight, I ran into an issue.

Have any of you ever experienced a random black screen during a session? The game is still running, it goes dark for two seconds and comes back. Just long enough for me to head towards the wall.

Specs:
Intel i7-10700
GTX 1660 Super
32gb ram
400w power supply

Hmm. Not in iracing but there was a time when that would happen to me in VR in KK. It’s like a big lag spike that briefly (in vr) shows you the equivalent of a black screen.

It would be for like .5s though.

Your Pc specs seem just fine. Maybe you are running it on too high graphics? Have you tried messing with the graphics slider to see if that makes a difference?

Myles,
Out of curiousity, how is the wingless “off” as compared to reality? I feel the wingless 410 feels pretty convincing, but I have no real life experience to compare it to.

I’ll put this here because it’s basically Call of Duty crossed with karting:

Some folks with ninebots made an indoor circuit.

Maybe it’s a blessing that I get to race the 410 by myself, mostly. Here’s a more popular alternative:

This crash just keeps getting worse and worse. I think that is the entire field.

Sim racing and you:

whats your FPS?

400w psu might not be able to push especially if you have the OC version, generally 450 watts is recommended for 1660S, I would probably go 500W to be safe and efficient, you should be able to pick one up for around $35-40.

Also make sure you have the latest driver and etc.

That’s a good point. It could be psu struggling. If you get a new one they are pretty cheap.

Like Jeremy said, what kinda frames are you seeing?

I think you want 60fps minimally for screens. Not too sure.

Not 100% sure but I think it was bouncing around 80 on a single larger screen. I can check tonight. I was suspecting the PSU as well. Didn’t want to bias answers.

I think the 500 or 600 watt psu would be a good thing especially as you add drives and stuff. Room to grow.

I think with most cards these days, you’d want 600+ psu to be on safe side. The bigger cards have beastly power requirements.

Here’s a 600 for $35

The QR is still in California and it’s a 3 day weekend.

If anyone sees a complete rig for under $900 LMK.
Im still rocking a controller ;(

PSU on order. I reeeeeeally dumbed down the graphics last night and didn’t have an issue after doing so. I won my first rookie race not being able to read anything on my hud due to the pixelization, haha.

Wooot! Party time (almost).

1660 on single screen with your cpu should be able to run it semi pretty.
