Took out my 8 yr old to the track yesterday.
Fourth time in his kart and 2nd time in his new Tillett T5 VTI seat.
Using a Tillett rib protector.
He had a couple off the track incidents. Claimed everything was fine except an elbow bump to the motor.
Last night after a shower we noticed a bruised spine!
Hurts on touch.
We assume that it must have happened at the track.
In general the bottom portion of the spine protrudes quite a bit when he leans forward.
I’m assuming that’s how he got hurt. Got nailed in the vertebra.
We will make an appointment to get it checked out.
How do I prevent that from happening?
Anyone else experience this?
Is there padding we can use?
Not sure how much more gear we can stack up.
He’s using the Tillett rib/chest protector and Leatt kart neck brace over it.
Can you post a photo of him in the kart? Only way I see getting a bruise there is sitting a bit hunched over with his back rounded. Or the bottom of the rib protector rests right there?
I think lots of people get bruises there but there are lots of padding options.
They range from putting some roam or raggs and taping them in place to foam with adhesive backing which you can cut to the shape you need and stick to the seat.
Is the seat too big for him? Ideally you want to be pretty much wedged in there.
Nothing there. Brand new Tillett seat. Tight fit. I reached out directly to Tillett about fitment and they advised to get this size:
The seat originally mounted in this kart was huge compared to this one. I had to pad it heavily before.
He’s wedged in.
I made padding for the old seat from sheets of XLPe foam or EVA don’t remember which type exactly.
I might have some left.
I’ll make a pad for the back of the seat.
I just wonder if where is anything out in the market that people used for spines
