Just caught wind of this today (or I forgot about it.) Spring Mountain Karting in Pahrump, NV.

Membership information and track accessibility options coming soon!
Nice looking track. A paddock cover would seem necessity out there.
As an aside, I sometimes I feel like we’re building monuments to our own hubris with the amount of development being done in desert regions. Have to wonder when the water will run out.
Spring Mountain looks like a country club type of motorsport facility, where you need a membership to have regular access to the track. Will the kart track be operating under the same premise?
They copied to track layout from the track at Sloan which closed in 2006… Really really good track. Super high grip…we were regularly pulling 2.5 Gs. Hopefully this one lasts longer than 8 years, as Sloan did.
Who remembers the IKF GNs that they had at Sloan…97 I think? It was so hot we had to race at night under massive lights. Practice started at 5 PM…and we raced till 2 am. The lights attracted about a hundred million grasshoppers, which swarmed under the lights. The karts would then hit them, and off the driving line the track was covered with dead hoppers. Instead of getting off line and losing because you “got in the marbles”…we were always going on and on about how slippery it was “in the hoppers”.
Big full field that year…whatever the max allowed was…I think 42 karts. I started KT light that year about row 5 or 6… right next to me was AJ. That year both Bridgestone and Dunlop Tires were allowed, and most of us made the mistake of using Stones. The Dunlops were way way faster. About 10% of the field was on Dunlops…and they lapped the rest of us like we were standing still… Good times…
