As a follow up to the 6hrs of Joisey I shall be racing the TKC endurance race at GRX this Sunday.
I am particularly excited for this one as I was involved in helping Keith and the gang get the league rolling, so I feel somewhat invested in the place.
It’s a batguano crazy track, Supernats style, but instead of a parking lot, it’s on a dragstrip/drift track. It’s fast, very technical, and has extreme grip, always.
The rubber from the drifty-bois is thick and appears to have some sort of rhino hide overlay. Additionally, the surface for the dragsters has been grooved and polished over the years. Finally the drift track was paved after the dragstrip as an addon, so there are surface transitions from dark asphalt to light grooved pavement. Variable grip under different conditions. A challenge!
It’s a physical track, too, and until around 9pm last night I was looking at solo which I did not want to do. My buddies @RandallC and @nikspeeds are running a duo and agreed to bail my ass out and we were planning on running 2 teams with just us 3 drivers.
Grooved and polished Drag launch
This was causing my limited brain to melt down. It seems really complicated to ensure you get the stops done and not get confused trying to split 3 guys between 2 karts over 4 hours. And, given how brutal the last race was, I’m not sure I wanted to find myself running 1hr+ stints.
So in a fit of desperate creative Rolodex exploration, I recalled that my old racing pal Ethan Oring was back from college. He, Thomas Annunziata and the Rafffa lads were at GRX a couple weeks ago. So, maybe he’s still around, I thought…
Ethan reimagined as a Bambino
When I had to drop out of X30 racing and jumped into the rental stuff, Ethan and I did my first Enduro together. It was a F-series weekend and my partner couldn’t make it, unexpectedly. So I ran over to Lib and found him available and he agreed to come race with me… and we won.
Ethan, Henry, Ben and Nick circa 2020 league race
So here we are again. Ethan bails out Dom!!! Maybe we win again! It also doesn’t hurt that E went over to two stroke racing and ended up doing well in regional and National racing in STARS and Skusa stuff.
And to add a cherry on top… Marc cryptically responded to my text, simply answering “where, when?”. So I may have Marc in the mix too.
UK race phenom Marc Coltelli
In any case I think this one is another possibility for a good finish. It’s somewhat kart dependent, but I definitely have a very good team for this event!

All systems Go! (We hope.)
More to come as we go!
