Could be. Another thought is it could be less noticeable since you basically spend the whole race flat at speed 3.
Speed 3 has definitely suffered though as well. Track 2 used to be 53s/54s early on, and it’s more like you’re lucky to get 55.
Track 1 is almost impossible to judge because they never had the auto-slow after the downhill originally
Yeah I’ve seen that place come up a lot. I have that on my list in case I ever make it back to the UK.
Unfortunately I got shafted at work during a reorg and now am on a new team based in the US, so unlikely I’ll have a company sponsored trip out there any time soon.
I was thinking about this last night. Every year I make the sales conf trip and every year I use that as an excuse to kart as much as possible for two days.
It struck me that it was actually a “vacation” because all I was spending was to get in the track.,. Hotel and air is covered by the work trip. I really don’t like the trip but I do take comfort in that I am basically getting travel karting with the travel part paid for once a year.
Much has changed, karts have gotten older as has the track. Laptimes have gotten longer and longer and track has become more and more challenging to drive.
When we started the league, we were doing 48s on t2, for example. Now, we are doing 51s. Similar on track 1.
We think that this is battery resistance and tire. But, in recent times, it seems like the track itself is less grippy, slower to warm, etc. last couple races we have had to be even more attentive with right foot modulation.
We are told that an entirely new fleet is coming. They are said to be replacing all the karts on both layouts with new ones, as opposed to swapping out the batteries.
This should be quite the change. It will be interesting because in addition to growly new batteries, the karts will come with the much better OEM tire.
I suggested we do a mini championship, open to past and present league racers, 2 nights of racing. Let’s take those new karts and set some lap records for track 1 and 2!
Need to come up with a catchy name… battle of the batteries? Fresh Kart Fight? I struggle with this one.
I hope we can get management to consider this idea. Would be fun and I bet we could round up a very nice field from the league mailing lists.
We were spitballing format ideas in general and one of the fellas came up with a “consistency” as opposed to “fastest lap” idea. I was pleased to discover that despite being unspectacular in terms of absolute speed, I am a consistent little bugger..:
