With any cultural movement there’s always a golden age, a zenith, an apex where it peaks. The excitement and novelty coalesce with a wave of interest and the scene explodes with colour and vibrance. Things eventually settle down of course, but as time goes on that particular era is always referenced back to and shapes how the present is viewed and understood. These eras seem to grip us tightly whether it be the early ‘90s Seattle scene, ‘80s synthpop or maybe something more familiar to us motorsport folk like Group B.
For Superkarts? I’d argue that era would be the late ‘70s. Though I am sure some would disagree, that’s the era I experience the most fondness for whenever I am talking to superkarters. If we look at it in terms of participation, performance, looks, sound and smell, it’s hard to argue that it wasn’t the top of the mountain. It must have been a glorious view to behold. Read more
