Tightening Kingpins

How much should I tighten the kingpins? Should there be any up/down play of the stub axles within the C brackets? Should I tighten them just enough to eliminate the up/down play and then stop?

Thanks.

Only up and down play from the spindle would be from bearing slop. Otherwise they should be tight.

On OTK at least I get them pretty tight, no play with the spindle in the bracket

Thanks. It’s a Compkart Covert 3.0 R-22 TaG chassis.

Tight. John Giacomelli worked on my front end more than a few times. He would make then quite tight.

Torque spec for a property class 8.8 m10 bolt as used in a kingpin is 51 Nm, which is a little more than 35 lbsft.

Also, when tightening up the king pin bolt to where there is no play, there should not be a dramatic increase in the stub axle rotational friction. Another also, don’t forget the kingpin spacers.
(wow that was bad grammar)
