Tillotson T4 Karts and Races thoughts?

Just think the Tilly T4 series is a more level playing platform..

How is it more level? Do they run with 0 degree engine mount? Surely you can’t be referring to any form of parity from one engine straight out of the box vs another engine made a year later. If you were you would have given some examples by now.
In regards to your statement that Briggs should offer a higher horsepower engine you must have never heard of the World Formula. They made it but the LO206 is the engine that people chose.
Briggs has an amazing rule set and works very hard to make it fair. People will always try to bend the rules or even outright break them.if you think the Tilly is immune to that then you are in for a rude awakening. As long as there is something to race there will be someone try to cheat.

You guys shouldn’t bother, he has no proof for his criticism on LO206, and no basis for praising the T4

Well Tanguy you have no bases for your argument on electric 2 shay…

Any time he’s challenged on his opinion, the response is either ā€œWell I just like the Tilly moreā€ or ā€œThat’s just my opinionā€

This has gotta be some high-level trolling or psyop, right? A burner account for a Tillotson rep?

Nope just a grandpa.. Who has seen a lot of things in my day.. And have done alot of tricks they are doing in L206 class to other forms of racing. So I know. And think the Tilly platform is a more even playing platform for a class. NOT a hatter of L206 just think Tilly does it better .. Again That’s what forums are all about saying what you think. And giving your opinion on what you see or think… Like everybody else does on here.. Hope everybody has a great race season.. Grandpa out..

I am a fan of the tilly, I raced a season in one and my son still races one. There is nothing about the tilly that makes it less susceptible to shenanigans than the 206. Case in point, I have directly experienced racing against multiple ā€œlegalā€ tillotson engines that were noticeably faster (2-3 kart lengths on a straight).

No matter how much you spec/seal an engine, there will always be faster/slower ones.

Legitimate question from me - can you elaborate on these tricks and why the Tilly is immune?

The frustration is you never say WHY the Tillotson is better outside of it being faster. Please educate me on this motor platform, as I have not seen it anywhere besides your posts.

Can one more work from kid kart to senior like the 206?
What is the cost of the tillotson vs the 206?
Does Tillotson offer short blocks?
What is their ruleset and who creates those rules?
Is it sealed like a 206?

As for a faster engine. Briggs has been developing something, but how do you roll that out and tell 100’s of racers their motor is no longer valid? Do you create a 2nd class of Briggs and water down the classes?

Adding new engine packages is not as simple as some think.

The only objective data for this is the spread in times for the upper 1/3 of the field in each class. Post that, and perhaps people may choose to believe your opinion.

I’m curious about the availability of each engine…in mass numbers, for long term. It’s a shame we’ve lost our domestic Kohler and Tecumseh options. And lets not kid ourselves – despite the development of bespoke ā€˜racing’ parts for these engines, they’re ALL industrial based 4 strokes.

I don’t care that you have a strong opinion but please be respectful and don’t slander Briggs and Stratton. Those folks have done amazing things for this sport. They are reason we can afford to race.
There is not a track/ series anywhere near us that runs a tilly class but there are 5 tracks within an hour and half running Briggs. So no matter how great it may be the racing is better in Briggs right now.
Love your engine as much as you want but don’t drag the reputation of a great company through the mud unless you can add some real facts.

Been interesting with all the opinions on this subject. Was NEVER against L206 just observations of mine. But its all good.. Racing will go on have a great season.

I find it amazing that there are virtually conversations each week about the Tillotson engines on KP but it’s crickets on the 4cycle.com Is everyone who talks about it investors and dealers? :man_shrugging:

30h of running time between service times for a 4 stroke is just not acceptable

That might actually be the first point worth discussing in a while on this topic/thread.

I’ll start a new topic for it.

I think 30 hours between service is very good. Not much to do other than a new head gasket, spark plug and service the valves. All under $350

I think 30-40 hours is pretty good too. It might only be producing 15hp, but overall maintenance cost is very low. Rotax/X30 will be much more expensive overall. For casual/hobby karters it produces enough power to be interesting but not so much that you need seat time to stay quick/kart fit.

In the US you’ve got LO206 and KA100 for some additional speed. In the UK we’ve got GX-UK (Honda gx200 as used by cadets) but that’s only a traveling series. The T4 (or Briggs WF) could be the sweet spot for a hobby karter. TKM (18hp piston port two stroke) used to fill the higher performance, low cost gap perfectly but has died off at club level. We currently have nothing at most clubs. People are basically supposed to go straight to X30/Rotax.

Still far from SA250 or Honda GX

Yes. But so is the upfront cost.
