Thank you, this is my legacy.
This makes me remember OP shorts and surf jams in general. Also a complete and utter disregard for UV radiation and its long term effects. A good burn was merely the base coat you built the tan upon.

Luckily (I think) the closest neighbor is a highway and a motocross track.
The day finally came. Pulled one of the old leopard engines off the shelf, and threw it back on. I haven’t been in a kart in anger in about 4 years, and haven’t turned a lap at Batavia in 15 years. Thankful for my ultimate frisbee league thats kept me in shape, but still was feeling it after about 10 laps. Also thankful everything stayed together on the kart.
Had a set of old tires that had some decent amount of life left, so threw those on for the time being.
The track feels great. Grip levels are still moderate as the sealer starts to settle in and rubber gets laid down, but the transformation is still incredible to see in person.
Managed a 32.7 for my fastest lap in the run after this one. Lot’s of adjustments still to be made, but for now, just happy to be back on track.
Ooh lots of banking, that looks fun!
The first banked turn is called the Monza and has a lot of banking and fresh pavement. The second banked turn isn’t really banked but just on top of a hill. Its kind of blind as you approach and offline is the old pavement and is quite slippery.
Here is my session with the best laps.
Loving the elevation changes in general. Looks like an excellent layout. What is happening where you get air just past the tree? Is there the intersection of the pit lane and the racing surface?
When we walked the track we didn’t notice it but there is a hump in the track and it is worse off line. The kerbs are a little intimidating too, some you can use some you don’t want to.
The famous hump in the straightaway. Can’t really see it or feel it when walking the track, but it’s always been there, and kind of a iconic part of the track now.
I remember driving my dad’s shifter when I was 12 and couldn’t keep the throttle nailed on the straight cause the jump would lift me out of the seat.
Its really cool to see a track come back to life. That track appears to have a ton of character and that’s awesome. Hopefully it will last another 100 years!
