Ultrasonic Cleaners

I was able to use an ultrasonic cleaner a couple of days on my carb and it came up like brand new. I’m sold!

I want one…but…I’m trying to think of how I could sell this to my wife  What practical uses (apart from jewellery) are there for ultrasonic cleaners around the house?

They’re popular for cleaning jewelry and other little things like that as well.

Eyeglasses, eating utensils, coins, several firearms uses (components, brass if she’s a reloader)

I use mine to clean mountain bike drivetrain pieces. Bearings in several things and I have used it to clean lawn mower carbs as well. I have the Harbor Freight one that I think the last time I looked was $90, wait for a good coupon which will likely happen over the 4th and you can probably get one for about $75. I have had mine for several years.

Probably pretty obvious but not yet stated - works great to clean all of your tools as well.

Caution putting wheel bearings and anodized parts in an ultrasonic!

It may have been a combination of to hot, to strong a solution, and to long of a cycle but I absolutely destroyed all my bearings and took the shine off the hubs.

Everything else came out beautifully :grinning:

I have found that the type of cleaner has the biggest effect on anodized parts, but it will dissolve some of your color.

As for the bearings, how did it ruin them?

Same question.

Also, when you use an ultrasonic cleaner, do you lay the parts on the bottom of the basin or is there some kind of hanging basket keeping it off the bottom?

mine came with a wire basket.
