Unlimited Class Karting - What is Possible?

I have plenty of those two…the money usually is the part that gets me.

Is that a wheelie bar in the back?! I assume that’s removed for dirt use.

It is a wheelie bar, and it stayed in place on the track. It was spring loaded and tapered on the ends such that it didn’t grab or dig in, kinda like a skid shoe or a knee slider. In the first pic you can see it. Second pic shows how much the kart could wheelie with it fully compressed. In a slide, it would typically just touch the bar and then stay there or set the front back down.

What are the details on this one? This is quickly becoming one of my favorite threads. Looks super fast!

Also guys thanks for posting all of these karts. It’s really giving me a lot of ideas with some simple body work and a twin engine you can kick a lot of ass!

I have had nearly this exact same thought and went deep down the hole… Almost started collecting parts. I wanted to use a front brake setup and basically replace the disks with a sprocket/pulley and the caliper with the motor mount. I was looking at E-skate motors though, can get some beefy outrunners with 8mm shafts that put out about the same power as you mentioned for a lot less than the Castle stuff. Outrunners generally make more torque per amp too. I was leaning towards a 16s 60v pack to keep the current down. You should definitely check out VESC based controllers too. They have dual motor options with torque vectoring programming all in the box. The programming and interface capabilities blow away most of the RC stuff out there too.

I think this setup would be awesome to make a hybrid 206. Adding about 10-12Hp would be a nice balance and the AWD would change the experience completely. You could gear the 206 to the moon for straightaway speed and use the front wheels to yank you off the corner. With the VESC controllers you can easily add a pot to the brake pedal or even a lever on the steering wheel that triggers front brakes/regen, then you can dial in your bias via the App. Tons of possibilities! Shit, now I wanna build it again. Thanks. haha

Nevil was helping us out when I was working at Panther Racing and I got to go to his see this thing as it was being built at his shop. As beautiful as thing was, it wasn’t nearly as cool as some of the other karting works in progress laying all over the place. He and his brother both are absolutely brilliant fabricators and did some crazy stuff.
