Use of a clutch in a 100cc vlr

I’m sorry if this sounds dumb, but what’s the use of a clutch in the 100cc vortex vlr when it has no gears? I have some knowledge on transmission and the clutch on road car but I don’t understand why a single speed kart needs one.

The reason is so the engine can start and idle without the axle turning. There are engines which are direct drive so the wheels have to be spinning when the engine is running as they are bound together by the chain.

Oh ok, thanks a lot Ricky!
