First race back: NJMP Enduro with Alec

The Kartokrats emerged victorious (though contested) and had a fun race. Couple of the fellas at the end felt that there was a timing problem and that their lap count was off. I can’t tell from footage, but, either way, a good race. The race was fun and I had to drive pretty hard. Had some good back and forth battles and everyone played nice (mostly).

We made some new friends. I met a group of three young fellas who raced well and did battle. In fact I think I met three groups of guys in their 20-30s. I met a dad and his son, down from Long Island, etc. Lots of folks keen to race.

Alec is getting ready for a big race so he did the 1/2 hr practice and the first stint. He did very well, putting us in first, 1 lap up. My stint was the 2nd half, and I was content with my performance for my first race back. The race was made interesting by standing water in braking zone of t1, which was spicy.

We got super lucky with the weather. It had been raining relentlessly and the skies cleared up for a few hours for us. On the way to the track I was not optimistic, but as we got closer to Millville, the roads dried. Good stuff!

New sign this year

i guess it’s necessary given that it’s now legal. Yeah talk about unenforceable, vape, edibles, tinctures.

I’m don’t generally get high for actual races, it’s more of a hotlapping in sim thing for me.

Imagine Marco asking me to pee in a cup. Whole thing is absurd.

Instead of weed livery, how about hippie van to haul kart to races?

My fave is Bong Bear.

Dunno if been posted before. Has some really interesting footage of kart racing in the early days. Some good quotes. It’s worth a watch and it’s a bit eerie how it’s kinda exactly the same now, in some ways.

This one popped up in my feed. It’s in Italian:

Atmospheric conditions and speed

Reviewing my footage, I was noticing my speeds being lower than normal dry day races.

Because of the standing water in t1, that would narrow the corner making my minimum exit speed 27mph as opposed to 30mph normally.
It seems this screws everything up down the line.

Entering t2 because of slower launch I reach a max of 40 as opposed to 41mph, mid corner speed is also off by a couple mph.

Same again, t5, max speed into is 40 with min speed now at 26 as opposed to 28mph. Exiting t5 and heading down s/f I would top out at 45 mph as oppposed to 48-50.

What’s interesting to me is that the track felt ok where dry. I didn’t feel like I was struggling with grip. But, things were slower. My pace did not seem radically different from the rest of the pack.

I get that the wet entry in 1 has effects down the line but that seems extreme, particularly the top end fall-off. 45mph down straight seems disconnected from slow t1.

Could it be atmospheric? Can the kart lose power in humid air? Green track feels ok but doesn’t have the rubber to really lean into turn?

T1: normal 47-50 entry, minimum exit 28-31
Race: 45 entry, exit 26-27

T5: normal 41 entry, 28mph low exit
Race: 40entry, 25-26 low exit.

Could just be crappy top end on the kart but I wasn’t getting pulled on except by one kart. That might be skill, though. I was a “better” driver than most there, so they might not have been extracting as much from the kart with the exception of a a couple guys, so maybe kart. Maybe engine, maybe I was just slow? It didn’t feel like I was sloppy, though. Pace felt ok. Relative to dry footage similar karts I’d say I was 1s of normal.

TLDR: Is damp air slow?

i have rights to use this audio cred: tiktok music #racing #fast #track #automobile #garda #f1 - YouTube here you goo. Im training in my gear to make the neck stronger and overall be the right weight. Idk i just do it maby it doesnt help. Currently im doing upperbody / back…

What program are you using for data overlay?

Dashware, its a free program with good customizability.

Holy cow these “shorts” get pushed by the algo. 1k views, very fast.

@Bokeno_Racing if you paste the share YouTube link you get the preview thumbnail. I edited your post to show you what I mean. Take a look at how the links differ.

Scratching my head a little after testing with ANSA on Saturday. Struggling so hard for consistency, my best lap is 0.8 off my theoretical best. I didn’t expect a smooth learning experience, but man, this sucks  Best lap at 4:22, Alan Isambard acting as my chase car

How you liking shifter? Lots to think about whilst racing?

Sounds like you were on one of their KZ’s? If so, I think that could be part of your issue, as they can sometimes be less forgiving when applying throttle (as seems to be the case in your video). Ok your quick lap you seemed to manager this better, especially in T4/T5. It’s all about getting the kart pointed on the right trajectory, and keeping just enough rpm’s so the engine doesn’t bog and also doesn’t wheelspin. Looks like you still have some time in the last two corners, so that could bring your best a tick closer to your theoretical. That said, I’ve heard Homestead is one of the more difficult tracks to master.

It was a Rok, unless they were faking me out with the Vortex airbox haha. I was definitely very tentative through the last 2 corners, the grip on the washboard felt unpredictable to me. Didn’t seem like I could close the gap as the day continued, but I guess I’ll just have to keep turning laps

Ah ok, my ear was just off then. Seems like it wasn’t jetted very well then, and fixing that could make it more driveable and therefore more consistent.

Thanks! I thought I had tried that last week and it hadn’t worked (maybe I had used the full URL), so I then tried the embed code which didn’t work, so I just went with the standard link.

In my case I just hit the “share” arrow on YouTube and then paste the address from clipboard.

It looks like when you do it, there’s title info added and that jesses it up.

With dash ware, how does it deal with Gopro turning a session into multiple files 8.5 mins long? Racerender notices that the file has embedded telemetry and is part of multi file set. Messing around with dash ware, I wasn’t immediately able to figure out how to deal with those issues.

You can upload multiple files and it will just stitch them together.
However I stitch them together in Wondershare first, because I also do some filtering and color correction to my videos to clean them up and enhance the look, and then send that file over to Dashware for the telemetry.
