What Motorsports do you follow? (2021)

No IMSA?

2nd IoM TT. Pure brass.

Grosjean is sure having fun in Indycar. Yeehaw (racing incident) pass of many going from 13th to 3rd:

I thought his remarks were pretty interesting as well:

“I understand a lot of kids want to make it to Formula 1. If it’s to be at the back of the grid every weekend, I think you’re better here in IndyCar.” “It’s the freedom of driving the car the way you like to drive it. You don’t need to look after charging mode, push mode, tire temperature, tire window so on and so on and so on. You just go in the car, leave the pit lane then you push every single lap”

If you’re a race fan and you’re not watching IndyCar these days, you’re missing out.

The formula is pretty well dialed-in. The cars can race and follow well, they’re fast, they’re physical, the grid is stacked with talent, and the action is awesome.

So cool to see Grosjean being able to display his talents and not be mired in the back of the F1 grid. I’ve been a fan of his since his Lotus F1 days, even through the Haas years when he was developing a reputation as a crash-specialist. To see him be able to slice through the field at Laguna and at other races this year has been very satisfying. Plus he looks like he is just having the time of his life. Which is the feeling we all had as kids growing up racing karts.

I enjoy F1 but I’m really getting into IndyCar. Grosjean looked insane in that last race, but I think it was fortunate that he got into that “racing incident” with someone as experienced as Jimmy. Jimmy even after the race, when interviewed, didn’t seem to upset. Speaks to his professionalism and skillset that both were able to collide in that way- yet nobody got hurt. Indy is blast to watch. Hard to find thou, at least on Dish. I’ve set it to record every Indy episode, but (like the race in Portland) it failed to record the race but recorded only the qualifying session instead. :see_no_evil:

I’ve been trying to get my head around how that works :joy:

Maybe it’s recording every episode by channel; typically qualifying is on NBCSN and the actual race is on NBC. TVRacer.com is a good resource for what’s on where, and when.

I was a big fan of IndyCar when I was younger, but lost interest over the years. That is until recently. All of the road courses on the calendar have truly spiced things up. Don’t get me wrong, the ovals have their place, but in open wheeled racing it got kind of dull. No hard passes and contact was generally minimal compared to Nascar. However, on a road course they are getting the moves done and moving on to the next. The lead can change a dozen times in as many laps. It has me on the edge of my seat!

Side note, I was a bit surprised to see the windshield on an open wheeled car. :man_shrugging:

They followed F1 with their own solution. It’s a lot bigger than the original prototypes that were being tested during development.

I’m hoping the halo concept will evolve into something that flows more aesthetically with the lines of the cars.

Indycar choose the Red Bull Advanced Technologies Aeroscreen. It has the advantage over the halo in that it keeps out smaller debris which is especially valuable for high-speed crashes such on an oval. The downside is that you need active helmet cooling since airflow is blocked.

My first IndyCar season is in the books. When does the next season typically start back up? Same time every year?

I recall the announcer saying the 2022 season was to start in February. I assume its around the same time every year.

Looks like 27 Feb at St. Pete (usual first track). Race Schedule

I had a funny thought today while of all things, driving to Indy. While on the Interstate, Mostly through East Texan and pretty much all of Arkansas the roads were only two lane and cluttered with 18 wheelers. Now I know these folks are hard workers and often spend a great deal of time away from their families, so I am not knocking them as a group. However, when it comes to their passing technique there is a lot to be desired. I mean it is egregiously slow, to the point of blocking. There would be a row of 4 or 5 trucks, one guy would pull out into the left lane and then take like 15 minutes to get past the rest. Meanwhile the line of smaller, faster vehicles were building up waiting for them the move over again.

What was the expression I have heard on here so many times? Make the pass and move on. Or? If you’re not moving forward, you are moving backwards. Would it be possible to add a Push To Pass button on these big Trucks? It could be like IndyCar, you have only so many seconds of use, but maybe a timetable that it resets (some of these guys spend days driving.
