Im reviewing how i organize my trailer and am wondering if there is a better way to strap down the kart. Currently i set it on E track on the floor and run straps over the pairs of wheels on each side. Is this going to put excess stress on the tie rods, spindles, steering column etc?
I do the same, but with one strap on each tire. Never had an issue. I have also strapped to the frame itself, but it always weirds me out a bit when I see it flex as I tighten it down. It should be fine either way; I’m sure it seems more load on the track, but over the tires feels like the best route in my opinion if you’re strapping to the floor.
My kart is on ramps/platforms, but if going on the floor, I honestly just toss an old used tire under the seat rail or front rail and just strap the other two tires and it stays in place pretty well.
Same here. It make me cringe to see the frame get ratcheted
I strap my kart to the kart stand and then strap the kart stand to the tie down rings on the floor. I’ll get some pics next time I load up.
Same, but I just use those foamy twist tie things for the kart to stand.
Why would you tie it down tight enough to twist the chassis? If it’s fine just sitting on old tires, it only needs enough tension to not roll.
I use a single strap on each side. It pulls both tires down and holds them immobile. No pressure on the tie-rods.
This makes more sense to me. I’ll have to pick up some shorter straps.
Its not twisting the chassis, but when you tighten one side, it pulls that front tire back, then the other one when you tighten the other side. Its 100% pushing the tie rods against each other.
I used to do that with my streeter stand, but i habe a dalmi power stand now and the way it cantilevers to lift the kart, i dont trust it to have the kart on it while bouncing down the road.
Are you talking about strapping over the wheels?
I put an axle strap around the actual chassis in the front and back and then put the straps to those. It’s on the actual chassis and just tight enough to keep it from moving. There is no stress on the tie rods.
Yeah i posted 2 photos, straps over the tires.
That’s the one I have. I have the rear hooks on the stand that grab the bumper really securely, and I use a tiedown strap across the middle part of the kart to the stand. Then I use two ratchet straps to fix the stand to the trailer floor. One for the front part of the scissor frame, and one for the rear part of the scissor frame.
I have hit some gnarly bumps in transit and its been fine.
My kid just graduated from cadets to full-size karts. For last several years I have transported his cadet kart on powered Streeter stand as described above with no issue. But in just 2 months of transporting full-size kart in same manner, have broken 3 rear bumper bolts… I don’t have 100% inconclusive evidence this comes from how I’m transporting it, but pretty sure as he hasn’t had heavy rear bumper contact on-track…
I was behind a horse trailer today and it got me to thinking about how they strap down the horses, lol.
