Wheel Hub broken stud

Hi everyone,
My day was going pretty well until one of the hub’s stud broke. I was checking if the rear wheel was thight properly and this happened

Could it be caused by an “over tightening”? Or it’s just the wear over the years?
Sorry for my bad english

Could be a bit of both. Did you use an impact driver to tighten the wheel bolts? If so, make sure you aren’t using one that’s too powerful. And don’t let it hammer onto the bolt too much.

Otherwise, its not totally unusual for studs to break when they get older.

How long have you been using the hub? I haven’t seen this happen personally but wear in these parts is normal.

I consider them to be a wear item. I replace them at a minimum once per year. Usually the threads are damaged from running the nuts on with an impact. In a perfect world we would only do these by hand…

Thanks for the answer, I use a T wrench

I’ve been using this hub since 3 years now, something as 25 track days. I don’t know if the previous owner has ever changed the hubs…

So probably not over-torqued then. Just a wear item unfortunately.

I like to start the wheel nuts by hand to prevent cross-threading, and then when tightening with an impact, I just barely let it hammer on there.

If doing by hand, if you’re super strong you can over-tighten, but you should be fine using a standard wrench.
