I live south of Columbus, Ohio and would like to ask where to go watch kart racing on a long track. I am interested in seeing road racing that included laydown karts.
I would rather not travel very far just to spectate but I will go wherever I need to. I see Dart Kart is at Mid Ohio 6/13-15/2025. This is a track I have raced on with motorcycles many times. I was hoping to go to sooner than June.
With several race organizations it is possible I am missing dates for other tracks. I may not have caught all the organizations and their web sites. Are there races within about 400 miles from southcentral Ohio in the next few months?
Can spectators get in by just buying a pass at the gate at the tracks you suggest?
It sounds like you are relatively close, and you would be able to go around and ask professionals in the field for their opinion (and be around some shiny new toys).
On my short list beyond Mid-Ohio would be Nelson Ledges and PittRace…
Don’t recall their schedules offhand but will post back if I find them shortly.
+1 for the OVKA Swap Meet in Wilmington. Since you’re around Cbus M-O, PittRace and Nelson Ledges are where I’d go. Even Summit Point isn’t that far from you.
The only Long Track / Road Race Enduro kart event before June within your range is with the Woodbridge Kart Club at Summit Point.
It looks to be within 400 miles from you, and their first race of the season with be held on April 11-13. One thing about that event though, is that they will be racing on the Jefferson Circuit that weekend. This is the first time that I am aware of WKC racing on Jefferson, so I don’t know how many laydown karts will show up for it, as Jefferson is a shorter track than the Summit Point “Main” circuit. There might be a few laydowns there to try out the track for the first time, but there’s no guarantee on who will actually show up.
On thing for certain, there will be plenty of people there that will gladly answer any questions you may have about Road Racing karting.
Woodbridge Kart Club also races on the larger Main Circuit, and there will definitely be laydowns there, but that is not scheduled until August this year.
The Dart Kart Club has scheduled a race this season at Nelson Ledges, but that is not until July 18-20. Nelson Ledges have scheduled “Test Days” for karts the last two years, I do not know if they have any planned for 2025. Best bet would be to check Nelson Ledges Facebook page for any update, or contact them directly.
Dart Kart Club will also have an event at Pitt Race at the last weekend of September.
K.A.R.T., and what was formerly known as Championship Enduro Series, have a race scheduled in May at Gateway/WWTR, but that is probably beyond your specified range.
DKC’s Mid-Ohio race is now the biggest Road Race karting event in the entire country. You’ll have to wait until June, but every type and class of kart eligible for road racing will be there that weekend, plenty of laydown karts included.
Looks like I am leaning toward 6/13-15 at mid ohio.
Can spectators pay at the gate and get in including the pitts? The reason I am asking is I have been at bike races that regular spectators were not allowed, at least not in the pitts. You had to be on the driver or pit crew list.
