“Why Karting Isn’t Succeeding in Sim Racing”

I tried a couple of the popular kart sims with a wheel, none actually feel remotely like a kart.

You have to put this into perspective. The majority of the people on this board are heavy into karting, and think its the coolest thing in the world. Unfortunately, we are a tiny minuscule portion of the world’s population. For every 1 person that likes karting, there are probably 10x that like F1, INDY, NASCAR, Dirt Racing, IMSA, etc. There’s likely not enough users to make a karting sim profitable, and these companies are going to chase profit!

Has anyone tried Karting Software | KartSim

Pretty popular in other countries but less so here I think. KartSim is supposed to have some setup at USPKS races this year.

It runs off RF2 so it has a good base. I haven’t tried it before but have heard good things.

Unless your not old enough to drive a real car, karting isn’t cool to people that aren’t into the sport.

The highest viewed YouTube video with the word “kart” that has anything to do with karting on a race track has 7M views. It’s also about a kid crashing really bad. Most of those views are probably just people wanting to see some carnage.

Why would the average person want to play a racing game, and drive a kart, when they could drive a shiny race car with a big spoiler.

I just don’t think there is any money in karting games.

Karting is the accessible open wheel option in the real world. In the sim world, nothing is off limits.

Look at it this way: if you could drive a F1 car any time you liked, why would you settle for anything else, (variety not withstanding)?

As always, most of the time people don’t have their gear properly set up. Kartkraft FFB was really good.

Because KZ2 at AMP is the peak of fun ?

Yes, it is fun. But how much of the general consumer public shares that same sentiment?

I’m cool with not everyone knowing about how awesome KZ at AMP is. It’s probs for the best… ignorance means their hearts can’t be broken when they get passed by Jake Feder.

Not a lot unfortunately. But I would argue that not a lot of people enjoy simracing as a whole anyway

Can’t speak to the succeeding in sim racing part… For me personally it has been extremely beneficial.

Last year I ran CKNA Summer Nats, it was my first time at Pitt. I found a 206 and Pitt Race mod on KRP. Obviously it’s not as realistic it can be, however never being to the track before having some laps on the sim, really helped me not waste the first session or two learning where to go. Laps in sim were a second or so slower than real life, so it was pretty damn close.

I also came back to Pitt in October for their fall Enduro. They ran on Kid Kart layout, which was never really racer. Gearing was a question mark, as no one ever ran there.

The same mod I used for nationals also had the access road for the kid kart track … testing gears. What worked in the sim was perfect irl.

Again about .5 seconds slower than real life…

Where did you find the Pitt mod?

Not a lot unfortunately. But I would argue that not a lot of people enjoy simracing as a whole anyway

Careful! Some might interpret those as fightin’ words…
I see you want a closer look at my carbon knuckled driving gloves?

As MJ says, “I’m a racer, not a fighter…” or something like that.
