Wilder Horizons Raceway (Circleville, OH) Circuit Update

Unfortunately it looks like the land deal to revive the old Circleville Raceway Park in Ohio has fallen through with the prospective new owners. It’ll definitely be a shame if this is finally the end of the end for this historic track.

This is a bummer, but I was kind of skeptical on that project. Being from Columbus, I really wanted someone to bring that track back up and running. I don’t think it’d replace MCC as a home track, but it’d be nice to have a closer option for practice or fun.

My (limited) understanding is that the reason Steve moved away from the track initially was that he had a long term lease with the land owner who died during COVID and the family/new owners said he could no longer lease the land and the option was to buy the whole parcel including farmland or nothing. So it’s surprising that the new project was trying to pursue a lease at all. Even if the lease was secured, you’d be putting a whole lot of time and money into a property you didn’t own.

For Circleville to come back it’s unfortunately going to take someone very wealthy to take on as a passion project. The the track needs repaved, the structures on the property are quite old, the plumbing only worked off of an external water tank, and the access road was in rough shape.

Yeah, you’d definitely need to nearly start from scratch to bring it up to modern expectations, with new buildings, pit area, and facilities. The layout could probably do with an extension as well to race more competitively with modern karts.

Being originally from Commercial Point, OH, this is a sad update to me. I agree with everything said above. Theres not much that can be done now. When I win the lottery, I will buy this place and bring it up to modern standards. Everyone rub their four leaf clovers for me!

Chris and I tried to do some quick math on the place while we were drinking one night and couldn’t figure out a way in hell to have any ROI on the place. You may get the bones of what was once a fun track but it needs SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much to make it an attraction it’s not even remotely worth the effort unless you have a ton of money to piss away on a passion project. And funds no issue it’d be cool to see it saved but I can’t see it happening.

For those of us that have driven it, it’s actually fast and flowing and technical and still on of my favorite facilities I’ve driven.
