Hey everyone,
I’ve had this issue before but am at an impasse. I have a X30 125cc, I have had an issue which reared its head again today in the rain.
Issue is that even with the Airbox rain cover after less than a lap the engine just bogs down completely, can’t get it past 8k Rpm and the engine just cuts in and out. Granted today it was monsooning down and one turn was pretty much completely flooded, I didn’t drive during the heavy rain, though I went out when it slowed down as well as other drivers. Had the issue of cutting in out on 2 outings before determining it was just too wet.
I would completely understand if it had only happened today as I took the Airbox off and it was absolutely filled with water, even with the hood. I suppose my questions/thoughts are as follows.
- with the Airbox rain shield do I need to run a air filter too - the way everyone sells, and the way mine came just comes with the rubber boot which I would understand makes more sense as your cutting off a decent amount of airflow.
- I leaned the carb off and truth be told probably too much, about how much do you typically lean it off (basing it on minutes with the Tillotson HW-27.
- Is there something I am missing or doing wrong, in an instance of heavy rain, and/or a wet track would drilling a small hole in the Airbox help?
I come in limping but fires right up normally on the stand - correct me if I’m wrong but I take it that because of the momentum on the track the engine is just consuming water forced into it.
Any ideas, suggestions or just plain advice on something I’m not thinking/doing is appreciated.
Thank you
This is the exact kit I purchased from Comet, I have it strapped as well as zip ties to the Airbox (without the filter, as it came)
