Hi guys,
as the title indicates I’m wondering if anyone knows if the new iame S125 engine has compatible pistons with the old X30 Shifter 125.
The older X30 shifter 125 has been discontinued a while now and keeps getting harder to find parts, while looking online the part code and size looked similar
Although the pistons for S125 and X30 Shifter are similar under some aspects, there are some differences which make the employment as spare on X30 Shifter not possible.
The piston ring is different, and while the L ring is perfect for the direct drive engines, it is not suggested for gearbox engines, as the piston neck is a lot thinner and the detonation can easily destroy it.
The compression height is nominally the same, 29.5mm, but on the S125 piston the compression height is done by the ring, and the piston top protrudes 0.7mm beyond the ring edge, so the combustion chamber on the cylinder head has to be machined accordingly.
The piston top has a different angle: 7.5° vs. 4°, so the combustion chamber shape has to be modified as well.
Last but not least, the skirt profile is significantly different; on the X30 Shifter is much more tapered in the top, so using the S125 piston in a gearbox engine would be very easy to seize.
