Adoption of OK-N In the US

I’m guessing Andy had to be getting pressure since TM and Modena are the only ones that have their engines announced and ready to ship. Gotta allow people a little time to get stuff.

I also noticed a post from the owner of Italkart USA floating the idea of a touring OK/OK-N series so I wonder if that prompted the expansion to OK-N from Vortex only.

Homologations just dropped. However I’m only seeing one carb homologation for OK-N made by HHC, I know that isn’t right. @Simone_Perego any insight?

Also no TM in the list. Strange

Correct, i do not know why both tillotson and TM are not showing up on the list, as i confirm they both have an homologation fiche. It may have been an oversight or still some gremlins to solve with the manufacturers, ill check.

Meanwhile, the carbs are starting to pop up here and there :

I dont think anyone would design one, and no ASN In their right mind would mandate the use of it.
As far as i Can find out, In Europe only italy is going to run races for it, and lets see if that will catch on, the thing is the second the Big teams In WSK starts running this the cost will be the same as for the OK class. Its a dead horse.

Italy seem to be the only one so far making an effort. I think the ACI won’t be running an X30 grid now either which they did last year if I am not mistaken. IAME Series will still take place, but that was seperate to the ACI series… though I am not 100% sure on that. I am not completely in the loop with how the Italian national karting scene functions.

I did some digging here and Motorsport UK has not even mentioned it in any material I’ve seen, and there’s no support from anyone else. I think getting a grid would be possible, but there’s no effort to make it so from anyone currently.

Now fixed, there was indeed an issue with the upload…

Tillotson is the only brand homologating a float chamber, for the OK-N.

I’m very surprised there hasn’t been more released on the OK-N engines. Modena and TM are still the only ones that have released anything and are on the market. Maybe now that the homologation list is released we’ll see the other 4 engine manufacturers release stuff.

OK that’s pretty ironic

Rexon have. But yeah, you are right to notice Vortex and IAME haven’t really put much out about their motors.

In the last 100cc era TM were the best manufacturer for off-the-shelf engines and now its the same with KZ. I suspect this will be the case with OK-N. TM have the most incentive for OK-N to work as well. it’s no surprise they are the ones first out of the gate.

IAME and Vortex both have more to lose as OK-N is targeting the single-make classes which they own - ROK & X30. So they are in the position where a successful OK-N could negatively impact them. They have to homologate engines for it, but at the same time, be weary about its success. I think Rotax will remain absolutely steadfast in the mono brand space, whatever happens. X30 and Vortex are more vulnerable, if only marginally so (I am not sayiong OK-N is a big threat as it currently stands, it’s mainly a ‘what if’).

It’s an interesting case for anyone in business studies to look at.

Never heard of Rexon. Did they run the previous homologation of OK or have they done any other previous ventures?

Edit: Interesting, quick google shows it’s ze Germans and quote from their website “The BMW Group prefers to use our machined parts in prototypes and special series”.

Their engines certainly look very utilitarian and not quite as fancy as the Italians ha

They are Karl-Heinz Hahn’s (HHC Carburettors) engines . They know their stuff. They homologated an OK back in 2016. I am not sure whether this was their first venture in kart engine design or not.

Karlheinz Hahn Konstruktion & Entwicklung Produktions GMBH do a lot of CNC work outside of karting as well if I am not mistaken.

Another interesting note is TM now has its own branded carburetor. Not OK-N related, but cool to see a new Motori Seven KZ engine is coming.

it’s made by the guys from Vamec who do Tryton I believe.

Do note how both Vortex and IAME have technically not released any promotional info on any of their newly homologated platforms…

I do not think it is OK-N specific, rather a question of timing.

I’ve noticed that too. When was the last time Motori Seven produced a homologated shifter engine?

Both however show up on KartStore.it but Vortex and IAME have dragged their feet for sure.
