It was interesting…a lot of the fast guys on American chassis (MGM, Coyote, etc.) were running aluminum fronts / mag rears and had north of 20lbs in front of the seat. On the floor pan, steering support, etc. I moved weight forward on the seat to try and take out some of the rear grip but only had a 5lb’er on the steering column support. I think I estimated 35lbs on one kart between the floorpan and column support. I’m not sure why you wouldn’t just move the seat forward at that point, unless your height was prohibitive.
A lot of people (myself included) already have the seat as far forward as possible. Mine is literally notched for steering up rights and bottom seat tabs.
My understanding is that going back to the tire test mentioned, people were still very much into prepping tires. I remember the days of laying coats of Wintergreen the week before the race or Hot Lap depending on the season. The idea of the red was to have a tire soft enough it would discourage any use of prep. Mission accomplished in that regard! However, I do agree that 2 steps harder would benefit every racer at the track.
