Harder axle is a must. When we were on OTKs, we went ahead and installed the HH the day we mounted the vega reds!
Don, you are right. I forgot about the Florida testing. Reds are definitely better than the blues, but I still think we can go about 4 more steps in that direction and everyone would find the tire more enjoyable.
What went down in the Junior Final? Almost half the karts didnāt finish.
One argument thatās often made against harder tires is that it can increase the likelihood of (some) drivers doping their tires to soften them.
Doping can be hard to detect and a āParc Fermeā for tires is a big undertaking with so many drivers.
James, 100% accurate. If you put a tire on thatās this soft, you have slim chance of tire doping.
That Ryno liner is pretty worn out, as we havenāt touched it in a few years. 105 entries in Yesterdayās Mill-Rite Shooutout, including X30 on MG yellow with Zero issues.
$30K awarded to kart racers yesterday was awesome!
Well hereās my Feature from CKNA
Man Iām really bummed about this race because I know I had so much pace. Cruising all the way to 12th but I forgot this aināt club racing and I got hung out wide so many times in the same spots. Didnāt learn my lesson. Bummer!
The heat really got to me I think I spent half the Sunday morning in the truck throwing up was lucky the rain came right as warmup started so I could skip it and rest a little more.
Still had a good time racing as always and Iāll definitely have to try again!
Feel free to point out all the mistakes, fun parts/crazy parts whatever catches your eyes. Iād love to learn more and see other perspectives!
Yes, it is one of the solutions to tire doping. However, at what cost? Quality of racing?
Which? Parc Ferme?
For clarity: Iām not saying itās a good idea, or practical.
No, sorry. I agree the soft tires combat the desire to dope tires. However, soft tires can also be a detriment to the quality of racing.
To add to that. I think itās fair to say that given the broad spectrum of drivers that the 206 covers (From weekend warriors to national events), a soft tire is probably to the detriment of a bunch of driver torsos too.
Is there a reason why hards exist for new drivers in lower power go karts other than they are cheaper?
Wouldnāt over gripping the field be safer? Or actually, maybe it would be worse with more severe accidents since folks would be riding the edge of grip into walls instead of spinning off.
More grip is definitely less forgiving in my experience last weekend. If you went in the marbles you basically had no grip for 2-3 turns. Going off line in anyway made the kart feel horrible. Iām a firm believer in a harder tire for 206 racing I know for other clubs they have had some issues with them but Pitt Race 206 with the Mojo D2 is truly a fantastic package.
(I am biased cause itās home)
Yeah itās funny. I guess since it is the big race for 4-stroke they figured sticky tires. Maybe not a great way to go. Looking forwards to Pitt for sure. Maybe there will still be some of your rubbet left for me to surf this Friday/sat!
Like others said itās most likely to stop the people doping the hard tires.
And Vega partnership etc.
But⦠tek? Probe all the karts!!! I guess thatās alot of karts to verify.
Physical demands, more of a factor for older drivers but for sure at the local level where folks have less time to commit to the track, harder tires can make the minimum required fitness commitment⦠Especially after two/three days of body abuse.
Very good point! The average Joe will not be able to handle much more than 5-10 laps.
Yep, ask me how I know
Do probably find rentals less physically demanding compared to when you ran TaG. Some of that is the sheer difference in pace of course.
Yes⦠with gx270 on rental tires (and even lecont reds) I can go indefinitely.
I have driven 3 nonstop and was not feeling it. Coulda done another 2-3 I think.
I think the limitation is mental basically. I like to think Iām wired for this kind of stuff. I never was a good sprinter, but I did captain the x-country team along with Herb! We enjoyed suffering.
Heat does come into play, mainly. Thatās the thing.
Elias and I were seriously contemplating lifting going down main straight of the 6hr of NJ. Once you get really worked in the heat, there is a temptation to lift.
I suppose on 125tag I could, with serious conditioning, get to the point where I could do 1hr + but Iām not sure Iād want to. That would take work and Iād get even skinnier.
Eyeballing Nikās ultralight suit brand actually, premium but intriguing (seems good for summer racing).
To answer the question re TAG/Rentalsā¦
Itās not a fair comparison in that tag has such a giant SOS compared to rentals. The switch back to rentals feels very slow and you consequently have a way higher level of self confidence etc. so whether itās deserved or not, the rentals feel easy in comparison. The braking is different, tho. Heavier karts.
I was not accomplished enough at TAG when I quit. I was still very early in my development and wonder what I would think now about the transition.
Oddly, Iām good with slow stuff. I really like the convenience and low pressure rental arrive and drive nonsense! And, Iām not alone!
