“Floating” Sprocket?

First post! I’ve really been enjoying all the great information on this forum.

I bought a used ‘22 Exprit w/VLR in November. During tear-down, I noticed it has what looks like a floating sprocket. I’ve never seen that.
So, do you guys have any experience with these? Pros/Cons, maintenance?

PRC makes a floating sprocket hub, seems like it is fairly common to use a floating sprocket hub in oval racing.

Is it better to run a solid mount when road racing? I guess it must be - maybe the feel or feedback is weird on a road course. I think I’ll ditch it.
