Everything I’ve ever needed for my trailer I got on etrailer.com.
Fast shipping and great service, they have pretty much everything a trailer and towing vehicle could need
Pitpal.com sells a ton of race trailer accessories, including the transition to cover the gap between the floor and ramp.
In the never ending quest for trailer organization, I picked up this 52" tool chest from Home Depot. Whipped up some feet out of 4x4 x 3/8" wall square tube, to replace the casters, and enable me to bolt it down to the trailer floor.
Looks great! @Jim_Johnstone is your trailer a 7x14?
@CasualCoroner yep! 7x14 tandem axle with 6’6" interior height.
Thats a nice mod. I have the same tool box and used straps to hold it in place (sort of) So I would be interested in knowing what and you did here. Is it bolted into the same holes as the casters?
I should have snapped a couple photos of the feet I made before I painted and installed them. Basically I took a 6" piece of 4"x4" square tube, 3/8" wall thickness, milled 2" off one end, leaving a 2" “tab” which you can see sticking out of the sides of the feet on the box. Then I drilled the bolt pattern on the top of the feet and 2 holes on the tab portion of the feet, and used the bolts that came with the casters to bolt the feet to the box, and 1.5" lag bolts to anchor the feet to the wood floor of the trailer. I don’t think I’m entirely happy with the lag bolts in the wood and may end up drilling through the floor and using actual bolts with fender washers and lock nuts on the bottom.
Came across this article that was interesting:
I have not been real impressed with what I have found listed online calling themselves a Toy Hauler. They were basically campers with rear ramps. They looked to have poor quality of construction/materials and poorly designed layouts for most practical uses.
I found both of these videos very cool and relevant to My Ideal Toy Hauler.
The owner is so modest, but did an amazing job!
Definitely some good advise to be had. I didn’t realize so many people have gone this route. Maybe I need to start a business based around this concept. I know Racers would be interested for sure, but I believe there is broader market among RV enthusiasts with bikes or atv’s, Hunters with utv’s and general out-doorsy types that want to bring more with them. I envision a proper living space enclosed in a actual trailer, not a mobile home on wheels with a garage.
As much as I would have loved to have bought nice shiny accessories for the trailer it just wasn’t in the budget. I have made a few handy things out of wood I had from other projects. A rack to hold spare sprockets, small parts tray shelf and recently added some bolts on it to hold the extra clutch hubs and drums. It saves space on the shelf’s which is limited and makes it much faster to find what you need.
I just gave my trailer a careful inspection, and in the hands of its next owner it’ll be the Trailer of Theseus. It needs a coupler, some electrical work, an axle, a new deck, some carpentry work on the upper platform, some welding on the frame, and a few other minor repairs, but none of them urgent. The tires were new last year.
Can anyone recommend a little open trailer with only enough space for a single kart and a toolbox, that’s narrower and lower than a VW GTI so I’ll get good gas mileage, and will stand up to almost 10000 miles per year and occasional 90 MPH running? Would a single jet-ski trailer with the winch removed and a little well for the toolbox be the way to go?
I think most trailer tires are rated for 75 max. The smaller narrow tires might even be less.
Trailer tires are now speed rated but weren’t before. If they’re not coded then you have to assume there rated for only 65mph. The highest speed rating I’ve seen for a trailer tire is N which is 87mph and I believe only come in 15” sizes. There are a much bigger selection of M rated tires for 81mph.
Well, it’s looking like I’ll be picking up my 7x16 cargo trailer in about a week and a half. Going with an Interstate Loadrunner as I really haven’t been able to find anything used that is reasonably priced lately. Thought about having a custom Mission or Look trailer built but when I priced it out, I was well over $16k and that’s just way too much.
Figure I’ll start with the Loadrunner and gradually customize it myself. Looking forward to sharing progress on the build. Lots of good ideas in this thread!!!
It’s amazing how expensive a trailer can be, I did almost all upgrades myself, shelves, rubber floor, hooks etc… and it was cheap and pretty easy plus I saved money and got the satisfaction of doing it myself. Best of luck, post a pic when you get it tricked out,!
Currently doing a major remodel of my new trailer. So i will have some photos soon as i get closer to finishing it.
Work bench, cabinets, Rubber Floor, E-Track, TV, Power, Lighting.
Its a huge undertaking. But will be worth it at the end.
Will you have the trailer at PGP on the 24th? If so, I’d love to have a look.
I will but it won’t be done. Not going to have time. It will be like 20% finished. Just finished framing where the tool box is going to go. Then I can finish running wiring.
So I spoke too soon. Found a great deal on exactly what I wanted last night and went and looked at it today. Deposit paid and I’ll be going to pick this trailer up on Monday. It’s a 2021 Wells Cargo Road Force 8.5x16. Fully insulated and with 110V/30AMP. The e-track is in along with cabinets. Not much I need to do here which is nice. Will probably add a work surface, a few more cabinets/racks, and maybe e-track on the floor.
Should work well for a kart trailer and be able to haul my '59 VW Single Cab, when needed.
