How is your trailer setup for Karting?

Same insurance company we use for home and auto. I think the insurance for replacement of the trailer itself is about $100/year. I need to talk to my insurance guy about the content coverage though.

This is a sore subject as of late, as my insurance tripled when I moved from the west coast to the gulf coast. But my trailer insurance is through my home and auto carrier (USAA), I think its $9.00 per month. Its not bad.




Hi, there’s my trailer 2in1 trailer for both sleeping and go-kart storage. Instead of bed, I can put second go-kart on top. Also, all shelfs can be folded to maximize space for future e.g. ATV or 2 motorbikes :wink: This trailer was custom made from scratch, it’s my own project, the idea was to build trailer as small as possible to carry one go-kart and bed, with small storage area in front. Total height from ground is 199cm so I can put this trailer into my garage (garage door is 200cm high!).

Check out TrailerAlarms.com. They actually make GPS units that can be hidden in the trailer. They sell some of the best locks on the market.

For my bumper pull trailer, I use the Proven lock for the hitch. I also document everything that I carry in my trailer so if it were stolen, I have an itemized list for my homeowner’s insurance. Also, a piece of advice, if anyone ever has a kart stolen, itemize it as a motor and a chassis, not as a kart and motor together. If you itemize it together, homeowner’s typically won’t cover it because they think of it as a ATV that should have it’s own insurance. If it’s a motor and a chassis (which is how we buy them) then there’s a greater chance they will be covered.

My modular setup. Everything is removable. E/Xtrack all the things.


Ramp mat has aluminum angle edges & transition flaps on both ends.


Folding shelves can hold a 2nd kart, or even double as benches.

Folding workbench table.

Even replaced the factory swivel tie down rings up front with swivel Etrack. The aluminum siding & front floor plate finish it off (cutting & matching that front curvature was fun).

Proven Locks just came in.

Pros:
Seems really well built, solid and seems to have a complex key pattern.
Easy to install*
Quick to install*

Cons:
There were no instructions, I had to look up a video, they had a bunch but it would have been nice to have a slip of paper telling me that they had actually had a video.

It is a little loose, it’s the exact model for my trailer but it has some up/down play.

I got the hockey puck locks from them too! No complaints.

This is the lock I got put onto to start using. Far from cheap. But good luck removing it. I also lock the ball lock.

After watching many lockpickinglawyer videos, I want one with Subaru locks. :slight_smile:

I always use a ball lock and a hitch lock. It at least keeps the honest criminals away.

However, if someone wants your trailer, they are going to take it. I have seen videos where they back up, hook up the safety chains and take off with the trailer. Then, when they get home, they work on the fancy locks at their leisure.

This is why I am a big fan of the GPS chip hidden in the trailer. It is really your best bet of recovery and also serves as a nice way to guide the police right to the bad guys.

Got a new tool chest for X-Mas, so my trailer is beginning to take some form of shape. I made a tire holder out of some scrap wood I had lying around the garage.

A dude once competed in a NASCAR race with a sort of stolen nascar. Donut did an episode on it.

Yeah how would one sell that? Don’t think Theres a huge market for it… especially one that’s outdone report it to the police

I built mine starting from a cheap but super solid 7X18 Haulmark Kodiak cargo box. Took a while to complete but totally worth it

Yakima Rack and Roll. Everything else goes in the cargo area w/seats down. Rack and Roll easily comes apart and stores flat against the garage wall. Upgrading to an enclosed trailer soon but wanted to post this because it’s super light, HOA/wife-friendly, and is super smooth on the highway at all speeds because of the suspension.

What about your kart stands?

How do you roll ~600+ lbs of stacked karts up in there?

I have a harbor freight winch in my trailer for when I need to do that, or if I’m just way too exhausted.

no big deal. I push it. 2 shifters and 1 rotax, no problem, you just need some momentum before hitting the ramp and some leg muscle. It’s way easier with a helper though, 1 pushes and 1 pulls

Pushing into a race/cargo trailer on flat ground is not that bad, it gets tougher pushing into something higher off the ground. When I went from my cargo trailer to my toy hauler, it got much tougher. I actually needed help most of the time, but I had a winch that I finally got mounted on the kart stand and is much easier to get in.
