How many folks here use chassis protectors?

You don’t get a choice where I race. You either jump a set of curbs to setup the next corner. Or you’re slow.

Agreed – which is why we all do it…but the point of a kerb was to minimize traction and be slower… so much for that!!

Really dumb question as I’ve been in this sport for 10 years . . . I purchased a new chassis and chassis protectors. I know where the side ones go, but where does the third, longer piece go? On the nose of the chassis, or right infront of the seat??

Same. Curb bashing is essentially mandatory for a fast lap at OKC in a KZ

It’s funny you asked that! I actually ran mine on the center rail right in front of the seat because that tube got way more scratches/rubs than the front hoop. I guess it wasn’t designed for that but it does work well.

I wonder what part of the chassis if more likely to hit a curb based on driving and how low the cassis is to the ground??

Same in Genk in the wet. You have to ride the curb in almost every single corner to find grip. I also recall my chassis not enjoying the chicanes in Valencia and Spa.

For me practicing at senior weight = front rail hits. Load up to Masters weight = waist hits. Probably flexing the chassis more into a taco shape with the extra lead.

I assume this is my problem too. Heavy weight and low rear height = less ground clearance at center of chassis.

What sorta weight are you racing at?

We have used several models. The KG plastics, a couple different metal ones, and now are using the adhesive Kevlar. Our experience has been that the plastics were a bit thick and tended to drag more, but they definitely held up the best. Driver also said he could feel them grab some on certain curbs at certain tracks. The metal ones slid over stuff the cleanest but were more difficult to maintain and keep in place on the front and would get sharp over time. The Kevlar ones have held up well and sit really tight to the frame, so they don’t contact as easily as the plastic did. You do need to clean the tubes well before applying or the 3M tape won’t hold. If bashing curbs hard they likely wouldn’t survive and definitely don’t offer as much coverage as the KG plastics.

My son wants to get me in his old OTK chassis. This will be my problem. 6-4 and 245 is gonna ba a bit of a load on the old tubes. lol…

Just raise the ride heights if it’s just for fun.

The day you buy a KR is the day you wish the entire frame was protected :sob:

Two sessions on a track without even any kerbs and the underside loses paint. We love the performance though…

One of the local KR dealers who has a team disarms his chassis every week from what a worker told me

If not I’d grind through the frame in half a season. Masters weight KZ curb bashin’ ain’t easy.

Most curbs in our track are traps so most drivers don’t use them unless they are very desperate
