How many folks here use chassis protectors?

Whats the recommended method for repairing a scrapped chassis? I’m handy with a grinder/ welder (notice which order I put those too in) Can I add metal to it slowly as to not overheat and make things brittle and/or warp?

Never heard it discussed, so I’m just curious what methods are employed.

You can weld metal to it, especially if you have a hole or a crack, no problem if you do that, and then spray paint on it, it dries very quickly.

So I popped for the Kart Lift metal chassis protectors. They seem very sturdy, but its a 3 piece kit, which I wish was a 4 piece kit so I could cover the cross bar between the seat and the fuel tank. (2nd picture)

Me. They wear out fast and are the only thing keeping my frames from getting murdered by kerbs. A small investment that pays big.

Buy an additional front and stick it on there. That’s what I do.

+1 for Burpo’s way. Thats the only way to keep that bar clean, as well. Needed at tracks with “rough” surfaces.

I still have in mind to make some titanium ones, sparky sparky :sparkles::grin:

I’ve used 30mm axle collars before on the cross bar between seat and tank worked pretty good and didn’t notice any issues with chassis performance or rubbing .

Been using collars there, but nice idea. Where can buy them individually?

Point Karting has kevlar frame protectors. I haven’t tried them yet.

I run the 3 piece metal ones from PKT.

@IronHorse Just switched to those part way through this season. I am sold. They fit much closer to the bar and have held up quite well.

I love the metal ones, but they’ve been banned for safety reasons in more and more places and series - I guess a worn metal frame guard can slice through kart suits and skin and cause some nasty injuries when karts take to the air.

Man that is some final destination type stuff!! I hope that didn’t happen.

Definitely have tore up my fingers messing with the front guard without looking at it a few times.

I was talking with a buddy just the other day about why no one has Kevlar frame protectors… Problem solved! I got a set of the plastic ones and just couldn’t bring myself to bolt them on, they are so thick! I felt like I would trade a minor rub for a major one with those things. Might have to give the Kevlar a go.

Just remember, if you drag the bottom off of the car, you can lower it more! (Actual conversation I had with an Indycar engineer, I wanted to kill him as I was fixing the bottom of the tub).

I just ordered the kevlar ones.
