JDM Compact Karting Van - Build Thread

*Legends car, but yeah leave it to Japan to come up with a wild idea like transporting your Legends car in your van.

Also pretty cool that Legends cars do exist of there too.

For the uninitiated:

Pretty popular grassroots oval racing here in the Midwest and around the country.

I have seen these as one of the “free” dirt oval classes in Iracing.

I raced Legends cars at the Indianapolis Speedrome when I was a teenager. If I’m remembering correctly, that pictue was taken after I won a heat race in 2001. That’s pretty impressive that they crammed one into a van! We toted ours around in an 18 foot enclosed trailer. I think the weight rule was 1200 lbs with the driver in it.

Nice driv3way. Did you know I had an orange 73 micro bus at your age?

My proudest moment: Jen calls me and says, “hey I’m taking a bunch of my girlfriends to the Dead show at giants stadium and we have an extra ticket… could you drive us?”

Hippie vans rule

My wife’s friends think my van is way cooler than she does.

I originally looked at a VR6 Eurovan when I started brainstorming this whole van idea, but they aren’t quite long enough, and the transmissions grenade themselves. Plus Eurovans are insanely overpriced, the market loves all VW vans.

But they are way cool for sure.

There was an attempt to answer the question: Does a car have any effect insofar as attracting a (female) mate?"

Believe it or not, a group of insurers commissioned a study.

The only vehicle that had any discernible effect insofar as what a potential mate might think of you: the dark colored pickup truck. Seriously. Practicality wins again.

From my personal experience the only people who show interest in my 911 are the very old or very young. Nick calls it the “douchemobile” and has requested that I never pick him up or appear in public with him in it.

Maybe the answer really is “Miata”.

How did that old joke go; “What’s the difference between a Porsche and a Porcupine…”

I don’t know! Tell me!

Porcupines generally don’t do dentistry?

“… with a Porcupine, the prick is on the outside.”
Porsche drivers who race karts are, of course, excluded from this stereotype.

Ooooh. That’s gonna leave a mark.

I’m quite a fan of my dads F type
I somehow convinced him to let me pickup my prom date in it, I made sure to get “lost” on the way back home

So what did the young lady think of the f-type super loud exhaust?

She was amused, I think I was lucky though. The snap crackle pop is addicting

(If my dad reads this) I never went above the speed limit, or above 2500rpm :+1:

Hmm a potential karting date, maybe?

While this is a Ford and thus not JDM, I still thought of your cool van when I saw it.

Everyone just sends me van pics all day, now that I’ve outed myself as a van enthusiast…
