Gonna need gloves and a balaclava then

As a photographer, you know it’s cold when you camera batteries fail due to cold.

I went drifting with Nick

Nick and I hopped in our respective SUVs and went for a spin in the winder wonderland of ETS. This corporation owns a big chunk of land with some parking lots tucked away, which are fun to go mess around in.

I brought the GoPro and got some footage of us messing about in the snow, for your amusement. I’ll add it to the thread later.

We had the roads to ourselves today, with the exception of the plows. Everyone seems to have been sensible and stayed indoors, rather than go shopping, or, heavens forbid, hooning.

We are now charging up Nicks EV, then gonna head home and have a Fondu Savoyard, to celebrate Nick’s 21st!

Yassou!

The day after the storm, I took out the 911 on its inappropriate rubber, later in the afternoon.

While the main arteries were clear of ice and snow, the rest were still treacherous. For the most part, however, there was a dry line, so it was not totally idiotic to go out on the summer rubber.

I ran out to get a tank of gas and try out the new Log Mode and LUT needed in premiere. To be frank, I don’t see much difference. This footage is the regular mode but 10bit quality. I think it’s fine.

This was shot with the anamorphic on Linear. This is a narrow view that is meant to make the verticals straight as opposed to curved. Looks ok, but I would have preferred to have it on the front bumper, not in the car.

The hero 13 is nice but the image quality isn’t better in any way that I can tell, I wasn’t expecting it to be. It does seem to be shooting higher ISO, but I also have the settings a bit different than the 12. I do like the camera.

Snow is fun to drive in and we should do more of it

I saw this on IG and it seems like a nice solution. It’s very kart-like but has suspension and I think is electric,

I very much have been enjoying driving in the snow, but one simply cannot abuse the family cars as one might wish to.

In an ideal world, I would very much like to spend time learning to drive a geared race vehicle of some sort on ice/snow/mud etc. basically rally type driving.

Displacement as Art

Is displacement artistic? I dunno, but one can argue that building a 12cyl mass produced bike is a worthy endeavor, an aesthetic treat in its own right.

Anyways, that’s a lot of cylinders. One does wonder how you turn with all that engine sticking out.

What am I looking at?

Some sort of cultural thing that has passed me by, but likely not you @tankyx. You seem wise about these things. I ask because someone had posted music thread stuff that played in the same aesthetic/theme. Pre-Race/Track Pump Up Jams - #748 by none03x

They mention incredibly smooth wheelies.

For the rest, I dont know, I am not enough of a weeb to know

Oh my, this is interestingly wierd.

That is a very cool car that looks like the red one I shared with you.

Weebmobile, perhaps, dope nonetheless. Want.

A weeb (short for weeaboo) is slang, often derogatory, for a non-Japanese person overly obsessed with Japanese culture, especially anime and manga, sometimes to the point of fetishizing it or disdaining their own culture, often marked by using Japanese words incorrectly or adopting stereotypical behaviors.

ADD Off-Topic:
@XanderClements the @kartchaser @KartChaser account names appear to be unused. Mayhap you should create some dummy accounts or something with the names.

Also, I had a karting shower thought… back when I worked at the sk8 mag they did an annual award called SOTY (skater of the year) with a big old party, feature spread, video, maybe a contest, etc. was a big deal. Mebbe KC can steal some variant of that idea if it’s useful.

I got a random hello from our pal @Richard_Jacques down the Dubai way and simultaneously was algorithmicially fed this video. He flies planes and possibly jumped out of them when younger and is probably no stranger to remote airstrips. Someday we will kart in Kazakhstan with Richard, just gotta wait for things to calm down a tad.

Here in the sweaty South, this is simply how you walk to the grid in summer.

Whatever gets you into (and out of) the kart! Crawling works, too!

In other artistic karting news… the media person over at SC has been killing it of late. Here’s their karting valentines card. I’d totally put these in some cubbies.

@KartingIsLife On the subject of the forums… on discord you have the abiiity to add tags and titles to personalize your profile. It would be cool to have something like that here.

Tenties: Industry Folks
Renties: well, me
Sweaties: sweats, duh

Etc.

Could come up with some good categories and icons.

If you kick off a new topic to discuss the tags and how it all works I can look into implementing it. It may already be a thing done via discourse plugins. Titles might be trivial, I think that’s where the “founder” thing under my profile came from.

If you’re looking to expand your knowledge on Japanese anime cars (itasha), one of my favorite YouTubers dropped his annual walkaround of the Itasha car show this weekend:

Some really entertaining stuff if you like bonkers Japanese car culture things.
