Karting Memes and Funnies

Did the Grands have a similar rule?

No, this was for the X30 Shootout. Pauly finished the race on the same engine that was ā€œshit off the bottom.ā€ I’m not sure if he kept the motor for the actual races or if it was specifically for the shootout.

Gotcha. Still funny to see him talk smack about it and later give thanks for the same thing. Maybe some people just don’t appreciate what they have until they know they have it.

Had no idea KP was on FB.

I feel attacked. The f1 cars are just long go karts.

Isnt everything on FB nowadays?

Yea, but some of us answer our messages… lol

Yeah started out around June 2013 with a FB page and a survey. Here’s some backstory to when KP got started and how it went from there… Nobody asked for it, but here it is

2013 there were at least two big changes in karting websites/media at the time which sparked the start of it.

Back then EKN got a redesign (coined EKN 2.0). In the process their (very) active forums saw some, eh, changes. New forums (Buddypress\Wordpress) were created, but required a new signup which was causing issues. The old forums were kept up for a while, made readonly but the entire process broke a lot of search capability.

4cycle.com had a major DB crash where the lost probably 20 years of karting content :frowning:

So karting web presence was in a weird state. Also, there didn’t seem to be a place for ā€œkarting enthusiastsā€ perse in the same way that existed for cars.

In 2014 the kartpulse website moved from being a survey page to a kind of karting death star website thing. It combined a social network with a track directory (back then I found something like 40% of tracks were missing from Google maps), event\race directory, classifieds, photo galleries, video galleries, forums & articles, probably other stuff I’m forgetting. As you would expect each of these things would flow into your personal newsfeed.

In theory it sounded great, but in reality it was a TON of software\code maintenance which meant there was no bandwidth for promotion… not to mention filling the site with actual content. Sure visitors could create content, but you still need to get them to the site and then get them to take action. Which is a LOT harder than it sounds. But hey, we gave ā€œbuilding the ultimate karting websiteā€ a shot. I think we’ll have a website to compliment the forums in time, but what that will contain is still TBD.

2015 @DavinRS got involved with a lot of content creation as well as talking me down from a ledge on a regular basis because of the the monster of a site I’d built (Well had built, I don’t code). This was the year that the show Kart Life was launched. The narrative portrayed therin was very counter to how we saw the sport, so we saw KP as being the anthesis to that. This video with Davin prettymuch summed it up:

2016 - I met with Davin in IRL at PRI and started a podcast initially called " Drinks with Karters" a nod to Dinner with Racers.

Davin produced a series of practical data analysis videos with AIM:

2016 is also when these forums based on Discourse were kicked off with myself, Davin, @Eric_Gunderson1 and @tjkoyen. With social media in full swing it was pretty apparent that there was a need for forums as a place to have better discussions… Not to mention making karting visible in web search again…

2017 Eric and I gave the live video talk show format a go with ā€œKartpulse Liveā€

2018 - present has really been all about the forums. For me work and midlife crisis has taken over so I’m more intentional about how I spend my time.

There’s gaps in here no doubt, but for those of you newer to KP or karting, figured it might be interested to read a little the backstory.

Present to future: What do you think?

These were the darkest of times.

On a more serious note, thanks to you, Davin, TJ and Eric for this lovely place. It’s a bit unusual in that everyone has agreed to not be dicks in an attempt to further the one thing that’s impossible to hate: karting.

Somehow you made a legitimately useful community with a very deep bench and philosophy that is sorely needed, where karting is important and is the end rather than the means.

The site is basically a celebration of karting, presented in a way that is friendly, open and accessible to all levels of interest.

It has been a privilege watching the young (and old) develop into racers. I get a kick out of seeing your efforts and it feeds my addiction. With that said, I’m beating all of you before I’m dead.

I second that!

Its nice hearing the backstory actually. I found this place in 2019 and have found myself returning nearly every day since. The passion and camaraderie of our members fuels the fires of our hearts. Karting, what it is, what it does to us, how we progress, how we fail, how we learn and how we succeed. All of these things wrapped up in a nice little bundle called KP. Nice name by the way. It definitely describes the mood of why Karting is in our lives. Why our hearts beat quicker when talking about Karting.

I feel like all of the top Pro Kart Racers have a shadow account on here somewhere, but haven’t revealed themselves yet. Even with @Bimodal_Rocket 's praises for Ryan Norberg and the Man-Crush he has . Hell even @XanderClements pops up in posts with his take on what’s going on in the (U.S.) world of karting. You know his boys are have dipped a toe or two. Just saying, this place brings together those from the top to the bottom in a way I have not seen before. Kudos to you Sir and to those that helped make KP not only a Resource, but a Home!

Yeah I’m new to Karting (and being new) I stumbled upon the YT channel for JaM Racing and watched every video he made. Then I stumbled across Bobs 4 cycle with no real knowledge of karting in general, or that there were differnt subsets of karting (2 cycle, 4 cycle, dirt, sprint). I began asking questions there but from the responses I got, it seemed like I was on a more or less dirt kart forum. Someone PM’ed me and said if I wanted to converse with sprint racers, and an overall more polished group with less bravato, KP was were I needed to be.

Best advice given to me by stranger I didn’t know over the internet. Other that Nigerian Prince who made me a millionaire. That dude is alright, lol.

His new beard/mustache combo is indeed breathtaking. But what I really love is his braking.

Cheers to that! Racing has always been about the braking! Look at Senna. I yield, his braking is superb!! BTW, still a Man-Crush on a kid half your age!!! Its borderline pedophilia.

Sometimes I want to post computer questions or car questions In here because everyone is so helpful, but than I remember it’s just for karting. That doesn’t mean we don’t go off on any tangents though…
