I don’t think that is enough!

How do you make a small fortune in Racing?..

Dean,
What’s the story behind the multi-class race with the LMP being stalked by a nascar sedan?

Joke is: “he’s right behind me isn’t he?”

That’s the 24 Hours of LeMans. Chevy entered as the annual “Garage 56” entry, which is reserved for experimental cars that run as an exhibition. Chevy suped-up a NASCAR with extra aero etc. and raced it. It was pretty fast, beat a lot of the GT cars.

as an old NASCAR nerd their effort and pace was really impressive…but when you don’t have to adhere to any rulebook you can make a pretty quick car out of anything.

Thank you! I get it now.

I wonder if they will enter the Petite LeMans in Atlanta as well. It would be cool to see if they overcame their breakdowns.

Does Petit have a Garage 56?

Petite is part of an American Series, The IMSA Weathertech SportsCar Series and run an 11 track season. I know they allowed Non-Classified Cars to run for no points in the past. The Nissan at Daytona 24 back in the 90’s is one example. I don’t think they called it Garage 56, that I can remember.

DeltaWing competed in the standard prototype class at the time iirc, so I wonder if they’ve done away with the experimental class, or I’d think the DeltaWing would’ve been in it.

Would be awesome to see the Camaro bouncing the curbs at Road Atlanta.

It’s a pity the delta wing went away. From the videos I watched, it was competitive and even maybe super good, potentially.

Not really a meme, but this is probably the place for it. Preach

I was thinking about this re Surfing which in surfy towns gets pretty territorial, nasty and rude, unhinged in some places.

We are fortunate that our tribalism is basically inclusive and we are all just grown ups on an expensive play date. We rent our waves in a group of paying customers all with equal rights to the tarmac.

Come to think of it, when we plonk down hard cash to play, that changes things. Surfing is basically free.

I WON’T F**K WITH DA HUI

Yah the ugly side of surfing. It doesn’t work so good when crowded and meatheads resort to violence, as they are wont to do.

There’s a perjorative term “kook”, that is used to marginalize the “wanna be’s” that don’t fall in line with the boys and their homogeneity. Ironic, really.

Surfing is kind of a jock sport in some ways and has plenty of shitty people with shitty attitudes.

To be fair to the assholes, a break can only hold so many guys. My response, “deal with it”. And don’t surf on small days when the “kooks” are out.

Anyways I don’t surf anymore so I could be talking out my butt. Things may have changed. And, it’s only nasty in crowded places, generally.

Long gone are the soul surfers, I think. But, I could be wrong.

I have never felt marginalized or unwelcome racing, PARTICULARILY in owner racing. Rentals has kiddos that can be insecure.

The song is about the Da Hui (pronounced Da Hooey) who are a group of tough, but fair, native Hawaiian surfers who live on the North Shore of Hawaii.

“If you’re gonna surf the North Shore, you gotta give 'em props, cause you’re surfing their backyard. If you’re respectful of them and stay out of their way, they’re cool, but if you’re not, you’ll probably get a beating. And that’s not only from insulting them, but it’s also dangerous surfing out there. The North Shore breaks big, especially in the winter, and often over shallow reefs just under the surface. If you cut somebody off (‘take off’ on 'em) or make them fall, they could get really hurt or killed. Definitely not for novices.”

Yeah iirc from reading, the north shore is known for that and there’s also the politics of indigenous peoples and colonists at play. I was just an average guy and was not charging pipe or anything. Heck, winters in NJ you have lineup to yourself!

I lived with a guy in SF who was well known surfer from the islands when he was younger. He had stories. One I recall was a guy getting stuck in the coral under pipe head first. Ded.

Reef surfing is best surfing but as you can see, has consequences. The “get the fuck out of the water” makes sense when the big boys are doing dangerous shit. It’s dangerous enough without having to deal with folks in over their heads. So, in the case of the Hawaiian islands, I get it. However, folks throwing rocks at kids over La Jolla beach break? Fuck off.

I know nothing about surfing but I love this song.

HB = Huntington Beach which is a crowded place by reputation (editorial comment added for clarity)

A rich vein, indeed.

Um yeah, well there is a Chamberlain House near downtown Honolulu. My great x 4 or 5 Grandfather was on the second ship of missionaries that went to ‘do good’ in Hawaii (aka eradicate the native culture). On the bright side, the missionaries did create a written version for the Hawaiian language, and the Chamberlain house served as both print shop and dwelling.

Unfortunately, my ancestors missed the memo about “going to do good, and staying to do well” (my Dad’s joke; he was born in Honolulu) like the Doles and the five families that started C & H Sugar. Otherwise my racing trajectory might have been very different.
